this was rumoured yesterday. Now confirmed. Not good according to Phil Hay Leeds United sweating on the fitness of Kemar Roofe with striker set to undergo scans on a knee injury tomorrow: Roofe has been sent for assessments on a problem suffered in Leeds’ 2-1 win over Swansea City on Wednesday amid concerns about the severity of the damage. The forward completed 90 minutes of the midweek victory but has undergone treatment since then and was pictured in a leg brace in Leeds city centre yesterday. The worry about Roofe, who has scored 14 league goals this season, comes just a fortnight after £7m striker Patrick Bamford made his comeback from a second knee ligament injury. Bamford’s campaign has been heavily affected by two knee problems but head coach Marcelo Bielsa was able to start both players in his starting line-up for the first time in a 1-1 draw at Middlesbrough earlier this month. The inclusion of Bamford up front saw Roofe switch to an attacking midfield role and they were used by Bielsa in the same positions against Swansea. United have just 14 games remaining and are third in the Championship after victories for leaders Norwich City and second-placed Sheffield United yesterday. Leeds, however, hold a game in hand. An absence for Roofe, who missed six matches with a calf strain in September and October, would increase the heavy toll of injuries within Bielsa’s squad.
With Bamford fit the squad can handle it... So the question is, will he remain fit for the 14 cup finals we have left to play ?
Must admit that was my first thought. We’re already struggling for goals so if we were to lose both strikers, it would be a dire situation
Yes of course. He’s as useful there as everywhere else he’s played for us. Reassuring we’ll have a choice between three crocks
Think we can now expect him to be given a chance in the Roofe role. No point in waiting any longer let's see if he's up to it.
Why would he have a leg brace on if he has not been scanned yet. Also why go out in Leeds with an injury just to make it worse. By the way that photo is from his previous injury
Can't be that bad an injury as he carried on playing with it,would say the cast is to give it total rest so he may be available next week if he hasn't done anything more serious.
FFS Billy and the boys never had leg braces back in the day and if they had, they would have played wearing one...
To win the Championship it takes a splash of fortune as well as a decent team and coach. Many times in the past, an injury has meant a player receiving a chance when he wouldn’t have done otherwise. No matter how great Bielsa is, dropping Roofe would be a conundrum to him so the injury might be a blessing in disguise. Roofe has been a little off form, Bamford is on the way back, Izzy just match fitness short. Bamford as the loan striker, Izzy at number 10 and us looking refreshed and raring to go for a very important end of the month and March, Roofe to come back from injury and being an impact sub
Don't write off Roberts. Remember, he did ok as cover striker earlier in the year when called on, and tbh, he's a better striker than #10 atm. Although, once Bielsa's finished with him, that might no longer be the case.
If he can just stay fit for the next 6 games that might be enough. Bolton (h) QPR (a) WBA (h) Bristol City (a) Reading (a) Sheff Utd (h) If we can somehow manage to be in the top 2 after that run of fixtures then promotion will be ours to throw away as our last 8 fixtures don't seem too bad at all.
We can win all them matches if some of the players learn to shoot from edge of box. We waste a lot of time trying to walk ball into net, and most teams have worked that out about us. We're very predictable so far during this half of season; a few long shots should scare the crap out of a few keepers, and throw defences into a state of confusion. WBA, we owe them one big time. Sheff U, that's going to be a battle but, we can win that one by 2 clear if we learn to shoot from edge of box. If Roofe is seriously injured, then it's time for Bamford to step up and show us what he's made off. He needs more commitment, and more viciousness in his shots if he wants to score more goals. Bamford will know he has a big opportunity while Roofe is out, if he's out.
I’m sure with bielsa’s scouting network this site is regularly monitored for tips. It will be ‘shooting from the edge of the box’ practice this week at Thorpe arch and let’s hope it pays dividends. You can’t really knock roofe’s achievements this year, he’s a good alround footballer but It’s difficult to assess with our style of play whether someone with different attributes would have faired better. If he’s out and Bamford plays as lone striker it will be interesting to see the impact it has.
