Ronnie was an iconic rock guitarist from the 70s and 80s who, after featuring on other starâs records (like Van Morrison), produced classic albums (as they were called in those days) in his own right, firstly under the name of Montrose and then Gamma. His music was an important back drop to my latter teen years. RIP Ronnie

Yeah, I heard that. I'm still mourning the other Rockin' Ronnie (James Dio). And I gather Tony Iommi is battling the Big C now too. I hate getting old and finding out that your youth idols are not invincible after all.

I remember like yesterday when my older brother bought first two Montrose albums Montrose and Paper Money and from that band i discovered great rock singer Sammy Hagar. Ronnie James Dio and the great Phil Lynnott were my rockheroes and now they are both gone. Now when yourself are nearer 100 year age than your birth you have to wonder when your time is up.......? No ,you have to rock on as long you can!
I loved Deep Purple in the 70s. Blackmore was one of the best rock guitarists of the time. Shame about Jon Lord. Christ....we're all getting old aren't we?
I remember seeing Gary Moore (the late Gary) back in 1985 when Phil Lynott came on stage and they did Out in the fields and 3 other songs. Three months later Mr Lynott was dead. And Ronnie James Dio May all RIP......Thank you for the top top tunes
Black Sabbath reunion (another) tour is cancelled because of Tony Iommi's cancer and i had a ticket to their Helsinki concert. That's life when your heroes of youth are coming to such age that heart failures and cancers of all kind are regrettable common. Im glad we still have such stars as Paul Rodgers ,Ian Gillan ,Robert Plant ,Jimmy Page ,Richie Blackmore ,Sammy Hagar ,Ozzy Osbourne etc. to left.
RIP Ronnie Montrose. A bit before my time ( Only just.) But as an aside, do any of our more (ahem ) senior members remember a Rock Festival at HQ back in the mid seventies? I was just a 7 year old playing in the courtyard of the flats behind the school end and remember huge crowds and booming music all day and night. I never found out who actually played that day, and it's only seeing this post that has bought the memory flooding back. Must of been some popular groups because the crowds were huge.
Too young to be able to see Gary in his prime (the 80's), that must have been some gig Ninj, a top performer live. Few lived a harder life than Lynott, you're a fortunate man to have witnessed him play.
