Tbf that's a decent bid from us, when you compare it to the £5m they bid for Schweinstiger when Keegan was manager...
9.5m for a 30 yr old who is in the last year of his contract. I wouldn't have a problem. We won't be buying anyone though if those Arabs were telling the truth and they did agree a price. There will be no movement in or out.
I agree. Five or so years ago that would be a reasonable offer. Now though, when survival is worth 150+ million and he's likely to be first choice striker for three years it just isn't the going rate. It's fine. We'll gamble on getting someone younger and cheaper with a hopefully higher resale value.
I can't recall that many players over 30 in the last year of their contract who have moved to a club around mid table and below for more than 9.5m. So I'm not sure how we get what the going rate is? Looking at players in a similar situation there are not many. I noted Chicharito also has his contract running down and he is being linked with an 8m move to Valencia. Lallana is being linked with a 13m move in a similar situation. Obviously he is coming out of Liverpool and would generally be considered a bigger name than Rondon. So I think people will be surprised to find we'd actually be in the right ball park at around 10m. Spending 16-20m on a player of that age would only really be an option if there were literally no other options or you were a big enough club that you can write money off in favour of footballing reasons. You'd struggle to find many outside of the top 8 who have that luxury let alone paupers like us. Or you are the dildo twins.
Agree. To put it into context.... Murphy and Thauvin cost more than they've bid for player of the season Rondon.
The £16m clause is in his contract though, so unless someone offers them that he'll be playing for them next season. I'm sure there's at least one team who will most likely be near the bottom (along with us) who would be prepared to take a punt on him based on his goals for us last season. If it keeps them in the division then it's money well spent. We won't be interested in him once the Arabs come in with their billions, we'll be looking at Mbappe man. Salmon who?
They will cost more. They were young players, one of them english, with many years left on their contracts.
How does llorente not fit? Cause the spuds are above you? They still paid 15m from a relegation status club who was 32 on the last year of his contract.
Its more the buying club is in the top 8 and can afford to put football principles above any finance concerns. Sadly we don't have that luxury. Don't get me wrong if we were a top club with money to burn I would hope age and contract length are well below football priorities. However at clubs like ourselves I think we have to concede there is an issue there because it will catch up to you very very quickly. Its one of the reasons Rafa is probably frustrated. He is used to eating at the top table.
Tbh spurs have been as tight as you boys have and levy is all about resale value. Even he broke some of his key tenets because of needs must. You boys saw how good rondon was and 16m to avoid a 150m relegation is great business
Mate were trying to sell dwight Gayle for 20. Ashley wants it both ways!! He wants to come in your mouth, spit it on his dick , and feed it back up your bum.
Yeah Levy is tight. However they still have the luxury of being able to place football principles above other thing when they need to. Hell even we have done it at times. He did well Rondon, but I must admit I think he's far from irreplaceable. He is a good fit for Rafa's style but I could see him struggling under more managers who want a bit more energy from players. I watched a young lad for Romania U21's who plays for Palermo in this U21 tournament. He is only 23 and he'd be a far better option if we want to spend decent money (not sure what he'd cost mind)
