Here's one for Matth to wet himself over. He might be a whinging nob on the field and i think Messi's a better footballer but is Ronaldo the number one humanitarian? (Drogba and a few others would run him close). Thumbs up to Ronaldo for this though. http://www.independent.co.uk/news/p...llion-to-the-humanitarian-cause-10244146.html
This is not the first time Ronaldo has given fortunes to charity, as he often does. He has also paid for the cancer treatment of many young kids. Not to mention he gives blood regularly. I don't think there is a bigger humanitarian than Ronaldo in football
He's vain and arrogant and made his girlfriend cry so none of this counts, he's a ****. It would help if he was a family man who loves his mum, he isn't though.
He needs to spend more time boasting about how many black people he is friends with. Only then can he be considered a truly nice man. On a serious note tho', I think the test of the humanitarian is not how they respond when there's a major public crisis but how they respond to general humanitarian issues. Much like many people in the UK - the DEC boasts about how we've raised £50 million for Nepal (£0.80 per person, go us!) but Farage gets 13% of the vote after promising to cut the foreign aid budget. Would be interesting to see how many footballers actually make regular and large donations to charities in general, not just the ones where there's a big public appeal or where they have a personal connection to the issue.
I do admire footballers who go back and help their country or their communities. They have managed to get into an influncial postion (money, contacts, image) and it is good that they use it to good effect. The likes of Toure, Drogba and many others who provide money to build schools set a good example. They havent forgotten their roots. Your point about Farage is well made. It is about helping people but only from a distance...
It's no secret that average people give more % of what they have to charity than those with more ££ I've took part in the odd work charity raising thing, and have seen the outcome of many more others. Every time far more is collected from the rank and file than form the big earners in actual donations as well as % of earnings. It is consistently the case. In one place the 30 people in the reinsurance claims department donated 2k to red nose day between them, compared to the leadenhall street head office with over 100 people, £13.60 was collected from a building with a car park where the cheapest car in the lot was £70K Obviously footballers overall could contribute more, but Ronaldo has certainly given a LOT of money to charity, possibly 10s of millions at this point. He donated to Gaza last year a few mil as well. I can forgive a guy being a **** if he helps more than he hurts, he's done far more good than bad, **** personality.
