Anyone else noticed this man is a free agent and not yet retired? Surely he is worth one season at 5-10k a week? Or am I being ruled by nostalgia?
Think what our players would learn from such a master We don't get too many former World Players of The Year in BS3
I think 5-10k a week is possibly optimistic given how big a name he is, but I don't think he'd be worth even that. I have little doubt that he'd still have some great skills, but he wouldn't be disciplined and wouldn't put in the required effort. There's a reason why he's not at a top club now - he doesn't have the required skillset anymore. You might as well take a punt on a top freestyle footballer:
He's being linked with second division Australian sides so I'd be highly surprised if at Flumiense he was on more than 10k. Some players are worth the investment if they can offer something MORE after they hang their boots up as well. LJ himself was on a reported 15k a week when he had his contract renewed by his dad, are you telling me that Ronaldinho isn't worth a third of that? Give over!
Bit of a romantic comedy signing but looks like when I watched him on TV his legs have gone. Not that interested offering little beyond the odd flick.
I don't really know what money he's been on recently, or what he'll be on next, but I doubt it would be based on the average of the players in the same league he was in, simply because of his name and legacy, so even at a low level, someone would likely pay him stupid money, just because they have a wealthy benefactor and hope to recoup some of the money through the increased interest/exposure that would come with being 'the club Ronaldinho plays at'. According to a Google search, the 2nd division Australian side you mentioned is offering him AU$100k (maybe around £55k) to play a single match! Even at £5k a week, it'd be a waste if he didn't ultimately contribute more than whatever player he was replacing. I think he's essentially just playing for fun now, which is fine and good on him if he can continue to be paid to do something he loves, but the Championship is a fiercely competitive league, where even the very talented need to put in at least a certain amount of hard, physical work. Rewind the clock a few years and maybe I'd agree with you!
You interested in freestyle? Andrew Henderson was at Yate school two weeks ago. Took my Son and a kids team to watch. He broke a world record doing backwards kick ups with his heels. Different skill set freestylers.
I saw him play at the Camp Nou for Barcelona - despite his reputation I have to say he put in a shift for the team that day (and Barca lost to Villareal)
I'm not sure you can compare a world footballer of the year winner who just so happens to have plenty of tricks in his bag, to a freestyler. He didn't win that by doing kick ups. He should be going to the MLS but I doubt American culture would suit him. He seems to want to play in the A League and has for a while. No way anyone in that league is on over 10k a week, not even Tim Cahill! I've watched Victory and Sydney!! Most tawdry garbage ever, worse than Sunday League here, smaller fan base than Yeovil as well.
