Very sad news indeed as I was lucky enough to know him personally and maybe would still meet once a year or so. He lived and breathed Watford for so many years, yet after he left did not want to talk about the club. Something happened at the time, I don't know what it was, but it was clearly a bad memory for him.

He was a real Christian gentleman, ready to help others wherever he could. In some ways he ensured that my Watford following continued, as quite often there would be a charity collection at the ground, organized by him, and a group of us would be given free admission to the game, in return for waving the tins under the noses of people in the stands.

Through him as a twelve year old I was given a tour of the dressing rooms and areas that were unseen by the vast majority of people. At that age such a thing leaves a permanent marker on the memory.

Like many others who I know I will miss his smile. He has been in and out of poor health for some time, but would always be so pleased to see you however he felt.

RIP Ron So very glad I knew you.
