Roman Pavlyuchenko to stay at Spurs as Harry Redknapp 'can't find better'
Tottenham are ready to open talks with Roman Pavlyuchenko about a new contract, after Harry Redknapp admitted he is coming up short in his search for a striker.
The Spurs manager has been scouring Europe since the end of the season for a new hitman, but admits he’s been left frustrated in his hunt for new blood.
‘I’ve been to France three times and I’m looking at these players and thinking "they’re not as good as Pav is",’ said Redknapp.
The Russian forward has been Tottenham’s most prolific striker of the campaign with 12 goals in 37 appearances, but still hasn’t been able to command a regular place in Redknapp’s line up.
Lille duo Gervinho and Eden Hazard are believed to have been watched by Spurs, as has Lorient front man Kevin Gameiro.
But Redknapp’s admission implies none of them are good enough for White Hart Lane.
However, it’s still understood the former Portsmouth boss wants a new striker, and his latest comments could be a ploy to drive down the asking prices of the highly rated trio.
