I wouldn't have argued against a 5 grid penalty or Hamilton's lap time stripped and he started from 10th but to get demoted to the back of the grid is, pardon my french, ****ing disgraceful.

If the reason that he was sent to the back of the grid was because of Whitmarsh's claim of a "technical worry" (which obviously wasn't) then impose a fine along with 6th or 10th on the grid and don't let the driver take the full blame for it. Corrupt or completely thick and ignorant FIA stewards.

I think it will be a repeat of Schumacher's fight in Spa 2011 @Cosi+easyexample.

No but seriously, if it rains.. and I think he will be praying for it, he is in for a good shot a solid points finish. If not then it is going to be a harsh race.

Ted Kravitz (I think) suggested earlier that it was a possibility. It's not such a surprising penalty since he broke the rules. Qualifying is one entire session.

I wonder if McLaren will short fuel him to get him through the pack quicker...

I'm thinking he'll struggle to get points.

No points. It's too hard to overtake in Spain, I think he'll get as far as the Force Indias.

I wonder how this will affect his game plan? It's going to be a good test of where his head is at compared to 2011.

On a serious note, I wish him well for a fight and a half tomorrow. Aggressive drivers are the pure-breed, go for it hammy.

I was tempted to click win, as that McLaren is by far the quickest car (in his hands anyway). But 6th will do, i don't want him winning, and ruining the possibility of a weird winner.

As an added kick in the bollocks, he's scrubbed all his tyres so he doesn't even have the fresh rubber advantage everyone else down there has.

Is it just me who thinks Hamilton's pit crew are ruining any (and nearly every) opportunity for him to win races?

That aside, it definitely seems like the officials always go OTT towards Mclaren.

depends how well Button does, If he's ahead of Hamilton then Hamilton won't be hindered by his own team

Regulation 6.6.2 specifically states that if a fuel sample is required after a practice session then the car must first have been driven back under its own power. There is no reference to the car being requires to be driven back to parc ferme under its own power during or post qualifying. McLaren left Lewis' car with 1.3 litres of fuel in it which is 0.3 litres more than specified in the technical regulations, they were not under any obligation other than that.

I believe Hamilton's penalty comes under the directive given after qualifying in Canada, 2010, which covered stopping on the slow-down lap. If the car stops for reasons not beyond the control of the team then appropriate action will be taken.

    If it doesn't, ninth.

Problem for Hamilton tomorrow is that he used all his soft tyres in qualifying, and McLaren struggled with the hard tyres in practices. In the race there's a chance he could get caught in a train of midfield drivers (so the driver in front is also using DRS), which would make overtaking extremely difficult.

I think he'll lose too much time getting past midfield drivers. Massa won't make it easy for him either. Overall I think he will get up to 8th, it's difficult to see him doing better than that.

I can't see why hes at the back. Scrub off his time from q3 as a punishment but what's wrong with his q1+2 times. Bit of an embarrassment for the sport if I'm honest.

The lowest grid position I think could possibly be termed "appropriate" is 15th.

The worst possible qualifying position he could have got was 10th, plus a five place penalty for attempting to push the regulations, given that they had the option to abort the run and start 10th, and chose not to.

The qualifying hour is a single qualifying practice session. It's not like he set his fastest time under waved yellows so they delete one lap. He ran an illegal car in qualifying practice so he should be excluded from the entire session if the stewards think exclusion is appropriate.
