This week’s events demonstrated how the literal interpretation of religious writings can lead to controversy. The views of Tyson Fury have been used by the Press to stir up a controversy that is not really there in my opinion. With half the country now declaring itself as non-religious I don’t really care what Fury thinks. I only know what I think and I suspect many others have the same view. All of the Press bandwagon is predicated on Fury’s function as a role model. I believe it is nothing to do with being a role models but just an excuse to justify “selling newspapers” as well as publicity for Fury. There is no such thing as bad publicity (or is there?) So how important do you see role models are in football and what impresses you and puts you off? For me the obsession with many footballers to tattoo themselves from head to toe helps me come to the conclusion that many are overpaid numpties. Perhaps the bigger question though is how should football be marketed both locally and nationally and should we be seen as customers or supporters. Over to you.
For me the obsession with many footballers to tattoo themselves from head to toe helps me come to the conclusion that many are overpaid numpties. Perhaps the bigger question though is how should football be marketed both locally and nationally and should we be seen as customers or supporters. Over to you. Overpaid, Pikey Chavs I'd like to add, and women today seem equally obsessed in 'colouring themselves in' from head to toe. I think it looks revolting on anyone, but that's just my old school personal opinion coming to the fore. Gone are the days when a tattoo was the reserve of those in the Navy. And this is not a racist comment, but I fail to see why black players bother with tattoos at all.....it all seems a tad pointless ?
I base my day on the musings from the Kardashians including Bruce (call me Caitlyn) Jenner. Let's face it they are such humble people that deserve respect due to their commitment to humanity and the well being of others less fortunate. At least this is one family that could never be accused of manipulating everything about their daily lives (including private household chores - if you get my drift) for money or personal gain. When was the last time you went on the computer and didn't see something about them? Lovely people and a perfect example of how becoming celebrities (whatever that means these days) has not changed their lives one iota and they continue to give back each and every day. My morning coffee clearly has had a special boost on my moaning trait today and I feel so good about the world. Hang on a minute!!! The effect has worn off and I can't stand the entire bunch of the money grabbing, attention seeking and thoroughly obnoxious family, or their supposed celebrity, and it's nice to see those kind of things don't happen in football. Role models my arse.
perhaps a good time to mention evertons steven Naismith, who recently picked up the tab for, and help serve xmas dinner for over 200 homeless people in Glasgow,- well done mate.
I've got tattoos I don't see a deal in it, each to their own I say. As long as they ain't on the face, neck hands that's ok in my book. I do regret a few of them though, as tattooing artwork has improved 100% since some of mine.
The two questions seem irrelevant to each other? If you don't like tattoos don't have any done.. thats pretty simple isn't it. Why worry about what someone else chooses to do if it has no affect on your life?
But the thread is about role models and the effect they have on kids and the image of the game. Yes, tattoos are a matter of personal choice but I believe excessive tattooing is not a healthy thing and tends/seeks to portray an overly macho image. The point I am making is that the players have a role in influencing some people's perception of the game or a club generally. Some people don't need role models as they can make their own minds up. Others are more impressionable.
If anyone was that easily impressed to get a tattoo just because they've seen footballers with them, then they should have twat tattooed on them. Can't see that anyone looks at Pack and Flint and think cor I'm going to get tattooed up. At the moment it's fashionable to have a sleeve done. Fashion changes and soon people won't be having them. As it's been said its choice, you don't like them so don't have one done, but don't judge other people's choices.
If you think that's kids don't copy what they see in their "heroes" then I guess there is no point in discussing the matter with you. The truth is that many do because they consider it cool. The facts are that football is a business and it has to be marketed properly in order to succeed and players must play a part in this process. We have all congratulated the players involvement with the Oscar project yet we appear to easily dismiss others aspects of their lifestyle. Some may consider tattooing as irrelevant and that football is just a sport. I personally believe that in this country our model is wrong and that we are living on borrowed time. But all IMHO. Locally SLs business acumen ( learnt from previous failures) is I believe on the right track except to say their communications strategy is crap.
As in all walks of life football has it's role models and it's idiots Ex City player Paul Anderson recently sorted out payment to fix an Ipswich fans ceiling - it got damaged when the fan celebrated Anderson's goal in the East Anglian derby last season
