According to the Sunday Times, Aarons only has contract running to the end of this season though it does have an option for an extra year. Problem is the option is apparently fairly loose and offers us little hope should he decide to go elsewhere. NUFC, ever ponderous, have not started talks over a new deal as of yet... Surely they need to get on and tie him down to a long term deal as soon as possible.

An old story being regurgitated from earlier in the season.
I'd be surprised if the club aren't in contract negotiations with the lad after his early promise.

yet NUFC.com say end of next season

    Birthday boy in demand

Sunday brought press claims that United winger Rolando Aarons - celebrating his nineteenth birthday - was a transfer target for both Liverpool and Manchester City.

It's reported that the Jamaican-born player who joined Newcastle during 2012 is yet to be offered improved contract terms, with his current agreement expiring at the end of next season.

Since coming to prominence with a fine goal against Schalke 04 in pre-season, Aarons has played 207 minutes of first team football, scoring twice. However he's yet to start a Premier League game.

Why on earth would he want to go to Man U or Citeh to sit on the bench and get occasional pitch time. He knows staying at Newcastle will give him more experience and in a couple of years time he can demand a big money transfer giving him and his agent a much bigger pay out.

This, of course may not happen as he strikes me as a level headed lad and could be a cult hero by then on Tyneside.

That would be a reasonable career plan. Seems very injury prone though, so if a club comes in and offers him more money now, he might very well take it to sit on the physio table.

Hope he stays, wouldn't blame him if he left.

Simple one really, get him signed to a new contract. The rumours are minor at present. I'm sure the club will be well forward with this. Mike may be many things, but he is not a fool when it comes to protecting his assets.

The reality is that clubs like us are vulnerable to the big clubs. Our fans have always struggled to accept this until recently. I don't think you'd see the same reaction now with Aarons as you did when Carroll or Cole left. We know we can't prevent it.

If we did things the right way and made sure we replaced well, as we did for once when we sold Debuchy, then it wouldn't be as bad. It's a shame that MA usually prefers to see if we can wing it understrength in order to save a few more pennies.
