It looks like we're gonna have to sign several strikers this summer, but will Bruce be able to get the right one to unlock the the enigma that is Asamoah Gyan? This weeks Captains Blog takes a look... http://www.rokerreport.com/2011/4/2...g-can-bruce-unlock-the-enigma-of-asamoah-gyan
I don't see any Gyan enigma at all. We bought him to give us a classier, more expansive attacking style, and if possible to score a bit more often than Jones did. He was never asked to score twenty-odd goals a season - we had Bent for that. I think Asamoah has fulfilled every expectation. He's already scored more than Jones did last season and he didn't come on stream till October. The lad's done very well. Our present problem is the loss of Bent, nothing to do with Gyan.
I agree and would add that it was suicide not to bring in another striker in the January window. Some say that Bruce didn't have time to find a replacement, absolute rubbish! Harry Rednap got VDV on the very last day of the window. What did SB have, 2 weeks? The truth is that Quinn and Bruce did not want to pay quote "over the odds" for a replacement striker. It was a massive gamble with our season that backfired spectacularly! I don't know how much difference there is in the PL prize money for 6th and 16th, but it has to be a few million, so why stall on recruiting a new striker in January? It just doesn't make sense, which is why we are deep in the clarts!
