Man of the Match - Lee Cattermole Absolutely top class from him today. Passed it well, defended well, bossed the middle of the park. He is an assets for us and I do believe that him and Bridcutt should be given the chance to pay together at some point. His performance today was reminder that he will be vital, particularly against Manchester City at Wembley. Best player on the park by a mile. Whilst I can only imagine the frothing over Southampton's England crop, Lee was the standout Englishman on the pitch today. Top class. for the article and equally big applause for Lee too, I couldn't agree more and this is exactly what I saw too, well done lad!
----------------------Mannone------------------ Bardsley-------Oshea---Vergini--------Alonso ---------Cattermole-------Bridcutt------------- ------------------------Ki-------------------------- Johnson-----------Altidore---------------Borini Ustari Roberge Gardner Colback Giaccherini Scocco Wickham Id like to see this against Arsenal and if it works again at Wembley.
Possibly use wickham instead of altidore but think Gus will stick by altidore though. bridcutt is cup tied for the league cup
Cattermole is a far better and far more influential player than many give him credit for. I was extremely relieved he wasn't sold last month and safc will benefit from that decision massively with top class performances like yesterday.
He could have reacted in last few moments when he got caught by the young soton winger with a bad foul,i said to my wife i hope that player dont get the ball again as catts i think would have had him,but he didnt make a huge fuss like some do ,he aint one to roll around is he
might not totally agree with the picks but what i do see and like is that there's defo competition for places with the likes of Colback, Fletcher, Giacco etc not even getting a 1st 11 mention
Catts is too rash for possession football, he is an accident waiting to happen, he dives in when he should just hold his ground, Lamberts miss was an example of this yesterday and could have cost us the game, it will in bigger games when the chips are down, He also runs into trouble when he tries to hold the ball until he decides what to do with it and this puts the whole defence into a state of panic, he is fine when we don't have the ball but a liability when we have it. Colback is far superior a player in the same position and is now much improved in the final third, we now have two other midfield players who look much safer bets than Cattermole, my choice would be Ki, Bridcutt and Colback as a midfield with Ki and Colback having licence to get forward when appropriate.
Jesus! Man of the match performance and you puck his mistake! And it was a tome when he won the ball under pressure on the edge of his own box and tried to pick a pass that was cut out.
He was my MOTM but what do I know! Daily Fail gave him a 6/10 and four others 7/10. How could I have been sooo wrong?
He didnt win it Marcus, he lost it, I agree he had a good game yesterday and he has improved , but I was looking at the bigger picture and my letter was an antidote to the over reaction of some to yesterdays display. It is my opinion that Catts, Oshea and Larsen are liabilities that for the time being we have to tolerate, but these players are more responsible than most for our league position , which is far more important long term than the cups, just my opinion.
We've always looked a better team with him in it. I do recall he had a mare recently and people here accused him of playing like a Sunday League player with a hangover and he want oo clivor in the next game, however and that aside, we win more games with Lee in it <fact> There are 30 players in the league with a worse disciplinary record than Lee Cattermole this season. Wes Brown has been sent off three times this season, I don't hear you crapping on about him. Finally, it isn't just yesterday is it? Run a poll, who has been our player of the season so far - Lee will get more votes than John O'Shea who has an equally bad disciplinary record this season. <fact, fact and fact>
His game has improved dramatically of late but there is always the doubt in my mind that the red mist will descend - but not so much recently
O'shea and Brown are poor comparisons, both have let us down this season , the joint purchase was a poor bit of business on the UFGB's part even Fergie said so.
