From the planet swans site. Rodgers - I Was Happy At Swansea 28 October 2012 By Phil S Brendan Rodgers talks ahead of his first meeting with Swansea since leaving the Liberty at the end of last season âIn my time at Swansea, personally I donât think Iâve ever been through a more difficult period in all my life,â Rodgers explained to Wales on Sunday, the 39-year-old losing his father to cancer last year. âYet, professionally, I probably had arguably the most successful period of my life. âBut that only came because of the support I got from the people of Swansea. âI was â and always have been â touched by their support. Since I left Iâve had a number of letters from Swansea fans and there was one which was really poignant. âI missed a press conference one day and no-one ever knew why. âI travelled to see a young lady called Amanda who was a headteacher. âShe had been diagnosed with cancer, she was told she was all right but then she was readmitted with only a few months to live. âIt was the day to meet the press, but life was more important so I went to see her. She was in the last few weeks of her life. âShe was a mad Swansea supporter, but, ironically, her family were big Liverpool supporters. âWhen I spent the afternoon with her, she went away and wanted to give me something for when she passed away. âSo when I arrived at Liverpool the family said this was something that she wanted to give me. It will always stay closely with me. âIt reminds me that my relationship with the people, players and supporters will never change. âFootball is football. That is the real world. âI was happy at Swansea, I really was,â said Rodgers. âItâs a club that is really going to go on and grow and grow into a really established Premier League club. âI knew what the journey was there. I was more than happy to be part of that and help that to grow. âBut this is Liverpool. You walk into the building here and there is the European Cup for the five titles here. âThey havenât won the league for 23 years. Itâs a frustration, but that was part of coming here to try and help and test myself as a manager. âEven with all that it was a really emotional time. I remember with Huw, my wife... the pull was incredible. âThe professional challenge was why I came. If it was about people and honesty and those type of things, Iâd still be at Swansea. âBut this challenge is so great. It was still a big decision; I spoke to a number of people but one of the best bits of advice came from the chairman. âHuw was incredible in the process, he saw it from professional point of view, but also as a friend. âI respect the Swansea City supporters, no matter what their response is,â said Rodgers when asked what he thinks may greet him from the Anfield Road End on Wednesday. âItâs never easy when anyone leaves. I hope over time that the work I did during that period will be respected and looked upon. âI understand if there is any ill-feeling towards me. But I only left to come to one of the biggest clubs in the world. âI had four chances to leave whilst I was there, but I was always very happy in my life. âIt took an opportunity from an iconic club to come for me to go. âAnd the Swans now have a terrific manager who will add his own slant to the philosophy. âSwanseaâs philosophy is in place, weâre only at formation here,â he said. âWhere we are at and where we want to be is two different places. âBut I love the challenge and I love the responsibility. âAnd, whatever happens after this experience, I will be a better manager for having gone through everything here.â Which hints at why he felt, for all the attachment, Liverpool could not be said ânoâ to. âLook at Owen Coyle. A couple of years ago he was touted as being the next Liverpool manager. Heâs now out of work,â he added. âIâve spoken to managers and weâve all seen it. Itâs why loyalty is with supporters. âItâs their club and they love it. I will go into a club and give it everything. âI felt I did that at Swansea, an incredible place, and, whatever reaction I do get, hopefully over time people will see my piece of work and history.â Read more at http://www.planetswans.co.uk/article/view/rodgers-i-was-happy-at-swansea#FBx6mmbRpzuQ64hu.99
The hate for Brenden will subside if we maintain our prem league staus. Personally i dont think there were many who be grudged him the move to Liverpool, what he did after exposed his ruthless nature and to do it to a club that give him his chance and took him off the scrap heap was quite dispicable actually. We are lucky that we got Laudrup we are lucky we managed to use his name to secure quality players, its inspite of Brenden that we are making a go of it this year not because of him. He will never quiite live his "i wont sign any swans players " lie down , and thats what dissapointed 90% of Jacks, nobody had a problem with him moving on, it was a bit early but deserved, we all had a problem with him telling lies and using the media to unsettle our players/potential signings . Im more impressed with Laudrup day by day and im not even put off "loving " the new manager either, its what its all about and as fans thats what we do, embrace the new manager when the old one goes, embrace the new player when the old one goes! For me Laudrup has the potential to cement a place in swansea history, its clear to see his pool of transfer signings is far superior to many in the prem league and the fact he has managed at lower end clubs means he is well used to scouting a certain type of player that will always fit into our budget, im quite sure Laudrup if needed could also secure us a few Marquee loan signings if we needed it,his reputation in Spain is indeed immense and i cant think of many that are equally loved in Barca AND Madrid !! With him,Swansea city may well become La Liga's pet project !! what i mean by that is that we could be a conduit for good spanish players to make the perfect step into prem life, a la liga club playing in the prem league if you like! it can be a perfect spring board for us and them. Our style of play is as good as anybodies and after seeing the likes of Michu, chico,JDG and Ki settle so well its a great option for players careers to come to a team where they already know the style of play and managers thoughts..and its Micheal ****in' Laudrup !!! Rodgers for me is welcome comedy sideshow with his david brent pocket book management speak and his thickening irish accent is yet another ploy to get his new supporters onside, his old supporters are pretty much over him but find his ramblings very funny, he did great things for us and will have my respect but he could of had hero worship here if he did things better after he left. Maybe that was a good thing,it would have made Laudrups job even more harder with supporters pining for brenden, at least now its more of a "**** you" attitude that helps the new man settle into swansea, aas the so called players revolt proved, the fans are 110% behind Laudrup and we have Brenden ****ing us over to thank for that...and of course its Micheal ****in' Laudrup !!
'' I understand if there is any ill-feeling towards me '' why? because you lied and acted like the ...... forget it, the Tw8t's not worth it !
If he's asked a question, want do you want him to say? Are you complaining about him being polite now too? Also, it's RODGERS. You are not charged per letter used!
Nice Norway. Sums it up for me. Just one more "being Liverpool" episode left for e this weekend .... Then it's all about Being Jack Army. Yesterday and the week to come will define us as a team, win or lose, we will emerge a better unit.
You see lads all this childish bitter twisted hate and resentment towards Brendan is not warranted....Ask yourself one question...Would you have turned down Liverpool if you was in his shoes.....Its his chosen career and like he said its the fans who are loyal and not people who work for the club..when a chance to move to a higher position you are not going to turn it down...nobody would and that's why i have no resentment towards any of our past managers who have moved on as i would do exactly the same thing.....eventually ML will be tempted away and thats football..All i know is we have been blessed to have such managers that worked tirelessly while with us and all have had an impact to put us where we are today....Top man is Brendan and i wish him all the success now and in the future where ever that might lead.....
Dai ,do you actually read what others post ? As i said and i repeat ! nobody begrudged Brenden going to liverpool but alot of Jacks were dissapointed by the way he conducted himself after he left, especially as he said "i will not be signing any swans players" Did well for us and plenty of respect but at the end of the day he is still a lying ****
wrong again norway ...sorry mate but you obviously dont know him and he never took anyof our players, liverpool did before he was manager..sorry get your facts right...huw conceded that he could not stop joe allens move and if it was not for Brendan we could have lost a lot more.....well done Brendan top man....
Oh no !! not this again !! havent you seen the documentary !! Ive met Brenden a number of times and had a few one on one chats with him which is probably alot more than you've ever done mate
Fed up of hearing about him now, the one thing the whole saga has done is to take the spotlight off Martinez as the villain. I genuinely believe we've got a better manager with a lot more tactical nounce in his little finger than Rogers had, and certainly a lot more prestige in the game to attract the top players. He's happy, we're happy everyone's a winner Incidentally, I left the 'd' out of Rogers just because I can
Rogers signed Joe Allen. Allen only went to Liverpool because of Rogers. Sorry, I thought I'd mentioned that before, maybe you missed it
It's only a fact that it's wrong in your mind Dai, everybody else knows the real facts but you choose to ignore them
I love the way Everyone in the whole world is wrong about this but Dai has the correct FACT ! it does make me chuckle .. Whatever, its done and dusted now and speaking with my MODS hat on i think we will just go round in circles with this point of discussion, think we shall agree to dis-agree on this one chaps
Yeah, I think he knows he's wrong just as the rest of us know it but he won't let it go because he's trying to save face after being so adamant about it at the time. Dai doesn't seem the type to put his hands up and concede to being wrong. Like you say though Norway, just agree to disagree. Let him think he's right in his own little world
Can't say I miss BRENDA one bit, was pretty indiferent to her coming here, and her going was no big deal for me, and as soon as rumours abounded over Laudrup on the horizon, well it was Christmas for me! What an upgrade, is all I could think about, and his signings have been brilliant, thanks to him we have a Premier league top striker in Michu, Ki and Chico aswell are top draw, so no way do I miss the double dealing tart!........ PS: If there are any spelling issues, I'm typing on my Samsung Note, as my Broadband is down, (Bloody BT) so go easy on me! .........
I hardly ever bother to correct typo's or check spelling Dragon(as you've all probably noticed!) as long as people get a rough idea of what your trying to say thats all that matters. We had issues with spelling Police on the old606 board, whatever floats your boat i guess, for me its about what your saying not how your saying it
Thanks Norway, though you know what some are like with the spelling, never pulled any poster up on it myself, good post by the way agree with all you say. By the way was it wrong of me to have slipped the linesman a fiver, for the Liverpool game! We can't be having that lot above us............
