http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/team/academy/staff/rodolfo-borrell "It is a job that means my name will sit forever alongside the likes of Bob Paisley, Joe ***an, Roy Evans, Phil Thompson and Sammy Lee. They are big names in Liverpool's history and it is also an important role because it is the final step in the Academy. "The players need to be ready if they are to make the move into the first-team set-up and I am going to fight for that." http://laligathemidlandsview.wordpr...-barcelona-a-blueprint-for-liverpools-future/ There is a lot of talk about Borrell and Barca have tried getting him back on 2 occasions. We are lucky to have him as reserve team coach.
It bodes well for our younger players that we have an excellent coach coaching them who is wanted by Barca who are the greatest club side at the moment. Hopefully the younger players will push themselves into the first-team mix.
I think it was a great idea to move him to reserve team coach so that he is directly preparing those players for the first team. He will also know Sterling, Suso, Coady etc already and what they are capable of.
Those two are brilliant. Realy important to our future younsters. Hopefully they can stay for a good 5+ years.
You know we are in good hands as even pep guardiola has come out and said that these guys can really help change our fortunes, our youth system, style of play, all for the betterment of Liverpool FC. Glad we have them and they continue what they do best!
Does anyone else think his move up to the Reserve coach means he's one of the first people to make up the new boot room?
I remember one interview he said we finally had all the teams playing the same way as the seniors, making rising through the ranks easier. That's showing now. Hodgson could've dismantled all that good work but Kenny knows the Academy guys and their methods well.
I think you have to say one Rafa Benitez pulled a masterstroke in securing his services. If Hodgson had stayed, I think its fair to say Borrell would have probably been given the boot. Rafa realised where the future of the club had to be built from, and after 6 years we are now starting to see the rewards of everyone's efforts.
With our club buying young homegrown players and also adding youth to our academy at the same time...are we creating England's Barcelona???
Maybe..... "That's why we communicate so often, almost on a daily basis. We go to Melwood or Kenny, Steve and Damien come to the Academy. We talk about everything. "We are all pushing in the same direction and when you do that it can only benefit the club and lead to success. That is our aim and we're all working hard to make it happen."
"The academy of Liverpool is the only one that can compare to La Masia of Barcelona FC...If they can manage those lads, then maybe 20 star players can arrive from that academy." - Pep Guardiola.
I think it's very difficult to re-create La Masia at Liverpool. I'm not sure how it works at the Acadamy but in Barcelona, the youngsters live together, they go to school together, eat together etc. It's like a family with not much interaction with their ACTUAL family. Being away from home and from loved ones means they develop a stronger bond and connection with the team mates.

That part was a surprise but I bet they have a specific diet in place and naturally run around doing drills. Not like my pizza eating kid who I have to do fitness training with or he would be the size of a house..
Barca academy seems really strict. But if that means you'll end up turning into Lionel Messi then I'd take it!
