With five games left to preserve their league status the Chairboys travel to South Wales to face the Exiles at Rodney Parade. Since beating us at Adams Park on Boxing Day the Exiles have been on a very poor run, in 20 games they have picked up only 13 points, winning only 2 games against Oxford and Torquay, which makes our form (3 wins 19pts) look respectable and if we can pick up maximum points from the next 2 games we should be playing league 2 football next season. Gaz looks unlikely to make much in the way of changes for this game but Blooms may have to make do with a place on the bench, after coming off in the first half on Saturday and Leon and Anthony Stewart will be jostling for a bench seat, after Giggsy being recalled by Chesterfield. Keeping the faith
If Northampton beat Burton they will be level on points with us. We can't be dependent on Northampton losing. We need all 3 points and, with any luck, Burton will collect 3 as well. This Saturday is a 6 pointer for us. We have to treat this like a cup final.
Saturday is a big game, with newports form as poor as it is atm then we need to take advantage. If we can go into the Northampton game with some sort of winning momentum (and possibly a 6 point gap) it becomes a very different proposition to if goal difference is all that separates us. Hope gaz only makes the one enforced change and nothing else
If there is a player in the team who is not totally committed to keeping us in L2 for next year it will be blatantly obvious on Saturday. I hope all players give 110%. If they do that on Saturday and collect all 3 points I'm sure that team will keep us in L2. If they don't, some team changes will be essential to see out the rest of the season.
Win this one which i think we will by the odd goal and Burton win at Northampton a point on Good Friday wouldn't be a disaster.
Can only see Leon on the bench as Ainsworth would be mad to make changes today after our last 2 results. Good to hear Cowan-Hall will be back soon which will give us more options maybe from the bench.
