By ROger Bennett: http://espnfc.com/blog/_/name/relegationzone/id/1486?cc=5901 This is the first in a three-part feature about Liverpool's attempts to get back to the top of the Premier League. The author, Roger Bennett, talked one-on-one with the club's manager Brendan Rodgers, veteran icon Steven Gerrard and up-and-coming star Daniel Sturridge. Here, Rodgers discusses with ESPN FC how Liverpool will regain their once lofty position in English football ahead of the Merseyside derby.
Really good article and I'm a big fan of Rodgers. Some may disagree but I think he speaks extremely well considering the amount of scrutiny he's under with the national media, internet and social media.
Would suggest that he's looking for experienced quality players who can come straight into the first team - glad to hear.
On the "Buy Side," Rodgers admits he and John Henry and Tom Werner, the club's American owners, have not yet determined how much they will have to spend in January. He smiles as I remind him of Sir Alex Ferguson's recent comments that his team is eight players away from being serious title contenders but equivocates when asked to suggest a more realistic number. "We've supported the squad, we've brought in some quality players, we've bought in some players as cover. The next stage for us is to bring in players who are better than what we have." Sir Alex observations full of errors like his book.
Ya, I was excited by this. I think we have enough young talent here now, even in the CM if you want to count Hendo and Allen as young. Time to add the quality. one here, one there and it can make that difference~!!
very true about Arsenal, but they have stuck with the same manager through thick and thin and maybe starting to reap the rewards, stadium is in place, some very good players there, money ish to spend the tight batards lol. Brendan has the skills to match that, but will he be around long enough to see it through, and stadium needs sorting asap. cant wait to see what business we do in Jan, just hope its not another sell before you buy scenario we have come accustomed to.
We may disagree about Ferguson on many things but one thing that almost everyone agree on is that he is an excellent judge of what makes a title winning side. I would trust his judgement more than I would Rodgers. Remember the frequent "we are still on for second place" quotes last season?
