"I have the ultimate respect for Kenny Dalglish. My door is always open for Kenny Dalglish. This is his home. He is the heart and soul of this club. His love for this club is unrivalled. He is the best player in the history of this club.

"I am not here to win any race or competition. This guy is a legend in the game and here at Liverpool Football Club. But what I know is history judges you as a manager and hopefully in time people will look back at what I have achieved here and I can walk beside these people. But there is no way I can try and overtake someone like Kenny Dalglish. All I can do is be myself. This is a prestigious club and this is a guy who has a wonderful history here and will continue to have a great future in terms of Liverpool. I can't worry about that. The only way you can overcome that is by winning."

"I respect every player who has played here and passed through the club's history. There are three types of supporters at every club. No1 is those who love their club and love their manager whoever it is because Liverpool is their life and their passion. The second group is supporters who will accept you but to earn their real respect you have to be successful. That's fine.

"The third group are the critics and you never change them ever. Ever. If you win 4-0 it should have been five, if you win one league title you should have won three. I will never worry about that group because you can never change them. I understand that not everybody will want me here. But that's part of the dance."

He's very charismatic... he's certainly made a better start than any manager of ours in the past 10 years without even playing a game.

With any luck he can back up his talk by walking the walk.

Brendan will always tell you what he thinks you want to hear, he is very good at that he is currently on a charm offensive almost a carbon copy of what he told us and watford before us, nothing changes there then

you should see his press interviews, now they are a sight to behold, you lot are in for a treat, he is a media darling, they love him

Calm down MITO. Whilst Kenny will always be welcome at Anfield, neither Rodgers or FSG will take the chance of a repeat of the Hodgson situation with Kenny sitting in the stands watching over every twist and turn. Therefore no official position for Kenny - in the short term at least.

or maybe kenny told them to stuff it privately... we just don't know.

I am not going to get at all carried away with press talk and interviews. I'll wait and judge both fsg and rodgers by their actions and results not by their talk... some people need to get carried away to feel good about the situation it seems or they will worry about things too much (a simple substitution of excitement for worry subconsciously).. I am not at all worried as its nothing i can control in the slightest.

Plus i think you'll find kenny had ZERO to do with hodgson and it was results and bad buys that did for him.

MITO, I never said Kenny did have anything to do with the Hodgson sacking. It was the spectre of the King in waiting that I was referring to.

Like you say, everything at the moment is just talk.

and that would have caused hodgson what precisely? I'm just interested to hear.

I acknowledge kenny when going and looking for a manager offered himself and was refused, but aside from that... who put kenny in the academy?

whether or not kenny is ever seen at anfield in rodgers' tenure... rodgers will be judged on only one thing. results. I won't prejduge him in any way but will not get all excited about a few press interviews either.

Talk is all we have at the moment. I'd rather hear a little from him so we get to see what type of guy he is rather than there be just silence, because that would just be interpreted as aloofness.
There's nothing wrong with a bit of optimism, I don't think many of us are getting carried away.

Psychologically, at least, it did Hodgson no good at all as things deteriorated to know that a potential replacement was sitting in the stands behind him watching every catasrophy whilst large sections of the crowd were chanting his name. It also put more and more pressure on John Henry to turn to Dalglish to 'save the day'.

Over the course of a season, Hodgson may have been able to sort things out - who knows. However the pressure for change was far more than he or FSG could withstand.

You already know my feelings about the risks attached to appointing Rodgers. That risk can only be truly evaluated when there are some actual results to base the analysis upon.

yet if hodgson had have got his team to actually attack, not signed poulsen and such and not been 18th in the table the crowd would not have chanted anything. I feel the chants came after the guy was obviously a failure, not before.

I think honeslty the sole, and overwhelming thing hodgson could never over come no matter what he did was the fact he was G&H last present to the club and when it all went south nobody wanted anything to do with anything they had done... ergo hodgon had to go in the minds of most.

whether or not kenny sat i nthe stands or not he was a dead duck due to the results he did get, how badly cole and others failed and by being in 18th at christmas.... If rodgers can't deal with dalglish even being at a game then he's no chance has he?

we'll have to wait and see over the next six months but it'd be in my view ideal for kenny to be at the first home game in his old seat and be cheered by the crowd to daraw a line under it, just my view anyway.
