Team News Rochdale could be without Rhys Bennett who picked up an injury at the weekend. Gillingham team news is to follow soon Past meetings Gillingham have a mixed record against Rochdale with 11 wins, 13 draws and 13 defeats against them however we have only lost 1 in our last 5 but that was the last meeting with them. Last time we won at Spotland was 2nd May 2009 win the season we got promoted but we played there 5 days later and drew 0-0 but we have not played there since so I believe that we can do well there as we are even better now. 25 Nov 2008 Gillingham v Rochdale D 1-1 League Two 02 May 2009 Rochdale v Gillingham W 0-1 League Two 07 May 2009 Rochdale v Gillingham D 0-0 League Two Play-Offs 10 May 2009 Gillingham v Rochdale W 2-1 League Two Play-Offs 29 Sep 2012 Gillingham v Rochdale L 1-2 League Two Current league table As of 18.03.13 Gillingham sit top of League 2 with 71 points after 38 games, 4 points clear of 2nd place Port Vale who have 67 points but they have played one more game than us as they have played 39 games. Rochdale are not doing as well with 2 wins in their last 10 games. They are 17th in the league after 28 games with 46 points. HOADIEâS View on this match I think this is a very important game with it being our game in hand. We do need to win this so there is not as much pressure on us as that would put us 7 points clear of Port Vale and that would be brilliant. I think with the form that Rochdale are in and that they have lost 7 at home this season signals that we should win and I am hoping for a win. The score line and scorers Rochdale 0-2 Gillingham with Burton and German getting the goals.
Again a point is not a disaster , but the way Martin talked in LKO it appeared he is going there for the win .
There has only been one change made to the starting 11 with Robinson coming in for Richardson who is not in the team after his loan expired, however Martin Allen is hoping that he will stay. Gregory is back on the bench as well as Birchall.
Rochdale 1-0 Gillingham mistake by Leon Legge and Donnelly got a goal from it with around 12 minutes gone.
Rochdale manager felt they bossed the game at Priestfield, with 72% pocession tonight they seem to be doing it again. How many times have we scored two goals in a game this year? Our game in hand slipping away? Oh dear......
Leon Legge not having a good game, Chris Whelpdale has gone off injured but time for the second half and we have played much better in the second half a few times so I believe that we can do better this half.
Dack hurt and can't put weight on his foot which is not good, he has gone off and Charlie Allen is on.
Seemed to pick up a few knocks tonight not good. 3 long distance away games in a week or so could have taken it's toll.
Just got home from work and only reading the match reports now. A good valuable point that edges us another step closer to the autos. Although no games in hand, we are five points clear of second and more importantly eight points clear of playoffs, this in itself is equivalent to three games in the bag out of seven remaining. So we only need to do the business on four more games at most and one of them is this Saturday. I see Framps picked up a card, that's life. The more concerning for me is the injury to Dack. After losing Cody and then an injury to Weston, Dack came on and shone through. Concerned until I know more. Still Keds adds to his tally for the season and what a vital time to do so.
Just got home from the match Not a brilliant performance. In the first half we gave Rochdale too much possession. The goal was a sloppy mix up between Nelson & Legge - who went on to give his usual solid display - particularly in the 2nd half. Again we were too loose in midfield. When we had the ball the distribution, particularly from Frampton, was poor. German did a lot of running. In the 2nd half he had a similar one-on-one with their keeper that he had v Plymouth. This time the shot was pushed out for a corner (he should have scored.) We were more into the game after the interval - but very few respectable chances were made by either side ( lack of real creative quality in our midfield ) - but our goal was a quality move and Kedwell's header was well taken. not much else happened until Frampton's stupidity near the end. The 'challenge' on Lee was very late - but it was no excuse for the assault by Frampton. For the last 5 ( plus 5 ) minutes we hung on for a point. I thought the decision to take off Kedwell so soon after he scored was a poor one by Martin Allen. It was obvious that the goal had given him a lift. There was still about 30 minutes left to play. Kedwell should have been given at least another 15 whilst still bouyed by his goal.
alwaysright - thanks for the update. I must admit with the substitution of Keds, when I saw the time that he scored and compared to the time of his substitution, I did think it was slightly odd. In regards to Framps, I did read a comment from MA late last night, I thought it was on a tweet via Radio Kent, that seemed to suggest Framps never touched the guy but they would keep the matter internal. Although technically MA has not by the comment alone. However, what was your sight on the Framps incident?
brb I should clarify a previous comment. Frampton was stupid for the aggressive manner in which he responded. The incident was 'off-the-ball', (it occurred moments after the ball had 'gone' ). I'd be surprised if anyone saw actual contact between the players. Frampton rushed up to Donnelly and heads appeared to get close. The referee was probably in the same time zone as this incident ( rather than up with play ) and thought he saw 'something'. Frampton has been around long enough to know that if you go rushing up to a player, put your head an inch away from that player's head - he will briefly lose the ability to stand up.
I like your last sentence. Yeah sounds about right, I think if Framps had touched him the guy would not have got up again! While discussing the game, something that really disappoints me at the moment is the how quiet the board is with us nearing our promotion goal. Always guaranteed to be so active when criticism is rife. I know I have a good moan about stuff but I do try to keep it in proportion and fair. Come on members, promotion party time is nearing (Easter).
Brb I think the reason why people have gone quiet is quite frankly they don't know how to react to this sort of situation. The club hasn't had too many promotions in its lifetime and I think we're all trying to stay grounded unlike the Vale fans who quite frankly jynxed their recent downfall with over-confidence. Seeming as this club never does things easy, think its best to stay grounded too
