Both have been told they have no future at FP. Neither of them were high earners.

Sad to see Rocha leave though - I always thought he was a stalwart at the back and he could read the game so well. :emoticon-0106-cryin

I must say I'm a bit surprised. Ashdown is a decent keeper who is out of contract at the end of June. If he is on an affordable wage and wants to stay and play for us in League One then I really think he should be offered a contract. Remember he was released before and then answered the call to come back. I think it's a bad thing if the club is now showing him the door.

Very surprised to read this 3rd eye - I would have thought that they should have at least been offered a new contract, albeit on reduced terms.

I thought Ashdown played brilliantly towards the season end, especially at St. Fairys Stadium, where some of his saves were "world class".

What a shame they are departing. I presume that MA has even better players lined up to replace them ?

You have to do a lot of reading between the lines Wooperts - but the report definitely says that they were not offered new contracts.

Okay so here is the conundrum - if the trust bid is successful, Rocha & Ashdown plus others will become shareholders of the club........... <laugh>

A real shame for Jamie A..... he has been a good servant to the club, in the back room he is a real squad player, never down and always loking for the positives........ he is gutted to be leaving us. so is his wife Zoe, she has been as comitted to the club as any.

The problem we have now, is that sanctions will be imposed on League clubs with regards to earnings..... no club can spend higher than 65% of its total income on wages......for the whole club, right down to stewards and part timers..........its a great thing for PFC in trying to mend and move forwards again.....but the down side is loosing players like JA. Appy has plenty of new talent on the horizon........personally I think there are some real good times to look forward to next season......... plus we get to see the dreary faces of the stripeys getting wipped in the prem :emoticon-0172-mooni

Reading the news article today it appear that Rocha was let go simply because Appleton wants a different kind of defender and didn't think he could afford to keep Rocha as well, that he wants a younger, bigger and stronger defender than Rocha and while Rocha could probably do a good job for the next two or three years where ever he goes it would only be a short term thing and Appleton is looking at a more long term picture.

And Ashdown was let go because Appleton thinks he's easilly Championship quality and will attract interest from any number of Championship clubs and asking him to take a massive wage drop when he could get bigger wages elsewhere is unreasonable, simply put, Appleton doesn't think Pompey can afford to keep Ashdown.

Reading another article today it appears that both Ricardo and Jamie found out that they wouldn't be offered new contracts through reading the News. Disgraceful way to treat people.

I find this part a little difficult to comprehend. I agree that Jamie could stand between the sticks for a typical Championship side, but surely, as he is now without a club and therefore unemployed, it would have been better for all concerned if he was offered a new contract, albeit at a reduced wage. The ball would then be in his court, as to whether or not he decided to stay. Also, if a Championship side did want him, the club would have been entitled to a transfer fee.

Most of the information re Jamie comes from his wife Zoe's tweets - she was quite clear that he wanted to stay and knew it would be a reduced wage.

I really hope I'm wrong but I am sensing an ego trip with Appleton wanting to completely revamp the squad to his own vision, or even in his own image. He did say in an interview that 18 of the 19 would be leaving - meaning only Etuhu (his signing) would remain.

It may be that his vision will be the right way - but to have no experience in the squad at all? A bit troubling really.
