Robins in the States: Day One Friday, July 12th 2019 The group were put through their paces as they settled into their new, temporary surroundings in the United States of America. https://www.bcfc.co.uk/news/robins-in-the-states-day-one/ Robins in the States: Day Two Saturday, July 13th 2019 It was back on the training pitches for the squad's second day of their pre-season tour in Florida. https://www.bcfc.co.uk/news/robins-in-the-states-day-two/
I've loved watching the stuff coming from Florida. Just makes me feel great watching our lads working hard but enjoying the craic and bonding together. I have to admit it makes me ache for the times when I went through pre-season and really, I suppose, just being young again.
The old brown leather balls with laces - and when you were allowed to tackle the goalkeeper!! It’s actually only 12 years since I played my last league match - I was a late starter and a late finisher, but knowing that a most enjoyable phase of my life is irretrievably over is hard to take......
Blow up the bladder with a bicycle pump and tie the neck with a piece of string. Then tuck it inside under the laces and strap it us as tight as you could. You had to keep the laced section smooth otherwise you could lacerate your forehead. The dubbin never did anything to waterproof the old leather balls though. A wet pitch meant you were kicking a lump of lead after 10 minutes and if you headed it, you got concussion. Ahh, the good old days.......
Sorry to revert back to the earlier posts of your members wiz - not attempting to divert your thread........... When I started playing as a sprog, I only had a pair of old leather rugby boots. I went to the local Bridgend grammar school where if you even mentioned the word "soccer", you were given a clip around the ear and told you were a softie. I started to play outside school hours with the local Boys Brigade footie side (I was never in the Boys Brigade, I was just a guest ) I saw some of the lads with brand new Slazenger and Puma boots. Wowie - screw in studs with a spanner instead of the nailed in wooden ones hammered in on mine..... I went and bought my first real pair of footie boots (low cut Mitres in any colour you want as long as it's black) back in the late 60's. The were so lightweight, playing in them enabled me to become distinctly average.......
Robins in the States: Day Three Sunday, July 14th 2019 It was matchday in Florida for Lee Johnson's side, as they prepared for an evening kick-off against Derby County. https://www.bcfc.co.uk/news/robins-in-the-states-day-three/
Robins in the States: Day Four Monday, July 15th 2019 City swapped football for baseball with team bonding high on the agenda on Sunday. It was an early start for Lee Johnson's men though, with their rearranged fixture versus Derby County played first thing in the morning, with Saikou Janneh on target for the Robins. After a rest, the group were out on a different kind of pitch where they were able to test their baseball skills while dodging the stormy Florida weather! The day rounded off with a meal out at The Beach House in Bradenton. Watch: Robins in the States, Day Four https://www.bcfc.co.uk/news/robins-in-the-states-day-four/
Robins in the States: Day Five Tuesday, July 16th 2019 It was as humid as ever with City back on the training pitches at the IMG Academy. https://www.bcfc.co.uk/news/robins-in-the-states-day-five/
