He was a great player for us and a decent manager for Rotherham. He has/had a terrific footballing brain but I am not convinced he is good enough to take Bluebirds to the next level. Shame really, as he was a favourite player I would like to see him succeed in management.
Did a good job at Barnsley as well, was unfairly treated there. I think most fans would like to see a bigger name but I have a feeling this guy wouldn't be too bad
Wouldn't have been my first choice TBH, but how many jacks said that about Rodgers last year, how many Arsenal fans said "Arsene who" in 1996?.............hoping for a bigger name, but the guy did OK and got shafted at Barnsley by all accounts, so IF he gets the job, well we'll just have to get behind him and the tean as usual............one thing Robbins HAS got going for him.............he's not Roy Keane
Put the following on the Wales online site "I think I'd prefer Mark Robins or Di Matteo than Hughton. Granted, Hughton was the manager of a premiership side that went straight back into the premier league. But I'd suggest it was more self-interest on the part of the players than his management. It's amazing what bonus payments do to someones productivity! Hughton, thanks but no thanks. Read More http://www.walesonline.co.uk/footba...birds-ease-debt-91466-28818021/#ixzz1OQ4vcI1H I appear to be in the minority in thinking Hughton is not the man for the job but I accept folk have different views to my own. Whoever gets the job will get my full support. I do not think Hughton has what it takes but if he gets the job good for him and I hope I am proved wrong.
You mean as proven as Rodgers was when he joined you? Even though it's all speculation, tell me, what has Rodgers achieved that either Hughton or Di Matteo haven't in their respective managerial careers? If memory serves correct, both auto promoted from the Championship and not via the playoffs....or doesn't that count?
Hhmmm - Swansea fan in peace. Have to side with H bomb there - You can never really tell from the outside what a manager is going to be like - we're not privvy to the interview process etc and the ideas that are put forward. Di Matteo was very harshly treated by WBA - before xmas he was being lauded as a genius as WBA rode high in the prem, and he will only have learnt from the experience. Hughton was loved by the Newcastle fans and (more importantly) the players. Maybe a useful manager for juggling the egos in a dressing room and clearly protected the players well from the pressures that expectation brought - something DJ seemed to struggle with. Either of them would be superb for the club and both of them had done very little (or nothing) in management before. So... Swansea have found success with unproven (or completely untried) managers - why can't Cardiff? Why not get behind someone like Robins (who has had his share of plaudits for unfashionable clubs and would still have links with Man U for possible youth players...)? Hughton, Di Matteo, Bellamy or Robins or Paul Tisdale or whoever will need support in rebuilding the squad sensibly. The only sure thing is that you want to avoid the irresponsible managers who keep carping on about needing more money to challenge when they have frittered plenty already (ahem Keegan, Benitez etc) - it tends to mask a failing as a coach. Someone with ideas, imagination and passion is more important than experience.
Goodland You're going to have to put a stop to these sensible posts. They're confusing us - not used to many of this kind from down west. All we can do at present is trust the board to get the right man and then be a little patient as he will not have all the answers immediately and we will take a few tumbles before moving upwards again. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think Rodgers didn't have the best of starts at Swansea and was taking stick form certain quarters. However, Jenkins, the board and majority of fans gave him the time he needed and, as they say in France, voila!!! If we can repeat that then there will be a lot of happy Bluebirds even if it takes a couple of seasons.
good post Goodland and expands on my point Just a shame others don't (or can't) seem to think before posting.
For one I am delighted Norwich did not go for a proven manager, look where we are now! Mark Robins would not be a disaster for Bluebirds and given some money to spend he would probably do a good job, I am just not sure it would be good enough to keep the PL hungry fans happy.
Robins would be ok...and yes...I am sure it would be done with saving money in mind. I still want Hughton. I just think he is a man destined to succeed....so it may as well be with us.
i really hope we dont end up going for this guy. wasnt he a league 1 manager before managing barnsley? there are far better managers out there, isnt it a false economy to hire a cheap manager anyway? surely its better to push the boat out a bit more and go for someone who is a bit more established? getting someone like that could be a recipe for disaster. expectations will be high next season so we need someone who has a track record of management.
