Firstly, I apologise as this post is not Saints related but is in my opinion a good football story.

Because Swansea are now being hailed as the first Welsh Premiership side, it made me think about when Cardiff were last in the top division.
This lead me to read about a player who once played for Cardiff called Robin Friday. I have never heard of him so I Wikied his name and I'm glad I did. Definately a player of another era he played hard and died young and was in all truth, a wrong'un but an interesting and funny read nontheless. Anyone who gives Mark Lawrenson specialist treatment get's my vote.

There was a documentary on TV about him several years ago which coincided with the publication of the book.

Cor blimey. With that track record I can't understand why he wasn't snapped up straight away by our neighbours.

He would have been quite at home and would have fitted in nicely with their players, management and supporters.

He had all the attributes necessary to be accepted by its citizens and to reside on their island.

Perhaps PFC's subsequent owners learned a few tips from him given their recent behaviour.

Work colleague of mine, a Reading fan, often used to have a pint with Robin Friday.... just before a match!

He was similar in character to Mark Dennis. Always getting into situations that he shouldn't, but he was always good to fans.

Given the media's preoccupation with the top divisions I shouldn't have been so surprised that I'd never heard of him .But the fact he was so outrageous but also obviously very skilfull made me think I should have read something about him before now.
