Hi, Grimsby fan in peace here, just to let you know former Boro defender Robbie Stockdale has agreed to take charge of your youth team, in turn leaving ours. You have bagged yourself a great young coach (only 32), plenty of playing experience and knows how to get the lads playing, I have worked with him previously, hes a nice guy, yet has great authority and motivation skills. As part of the deal your first team will play us in a friendly next season, which is great for us financially (we haven't got a pot to pish in these days) so its great news. All the best in the future, always had a soft spot for Sunderland (mainly because of Kevin Phillips)!
Its breaking news today pretty much from our official site, hes with us for another couple of weeks then hes going up to you lot, cant say I blame him either.
Good shout and I hadn't heard anything either. What's life like for Grimsby Town these days? Last time I was there was under Mick Buxton in 93/94 when the game was abandoned due to the snow. Bloody cold day out that day and a farce.
Had one of the best days ever at Grimsby (not joking...). We'd been on a lads holiday to Tenerife, and I'd set myself a task to nail a Spanish lass (I was young, these things were standard...), I'd failed, only managing the standard holiday fodder of Notts lasses & Scottish (god knows why, but that was my form..). Anyway, Grimsby away, Sunday afternoon, we won 4-0, went for some bait after, Spanish waitress, jackpot. Stuff of folklore amongst the lads, haha, heady days! Good luck getting back up mate, and thanks for the info!
In all honesty we are tits up, gone are the championship days. We are a mid-table non-league outfit, with a chairman who just wont feck off, and a pair of managers who signed a good passing squad (on paper) then decided to play long ball, with us getting absolutely nothing out of it (our record this season is D/L/D/W), oh and we seem to be leaking money left right and centre, with no funding for our youth team we have been running it from public donations and/or fundraisers. Pains me to think 10 years ago we were a stable division two team, and now we are drawing blanks against big names such as Nuneaton (who are bloody part-time), maybe one day we will be back. Maybe.... but probably not.
This is true, YOUTH team coach Robbie Stockdale is set to leave the club and take up a similar position at Premiership side Sunderland. As the Mariners continue to strive to meet the rigours of the Premier League Elite player performance plan, the club will be looking to appoint a suitable replacement for Robbie in due course. Sunderland had approached the club some time ago and asked if they could speak to the Town coach. They have been totally professional throughout their negotiations with Grimsby Town Football Club and with Robbie Stockdale. As part of the deal, Sunderland have kindly agreed to send their first team squad for a pre-season friendly game next summer. We would like to thank Robbie and wish him all the best for the future. http://www.grimsby-townfc.co.uk/news/article/robbie-set-for-black-cats-340821.aspx?pageView=full
Pff, the only women you meet round here are Jeremy Kyle fodder these days, its sweaty fat chav tits all round.
Aye Grimsby away was never an easy place to go at one time. Sad to hear that things are so bad. Hopefully one day mate. Keep the faith. It's a motto Sunderland fans have etched into their souls at birth.
Cheers mate, hopefully since the clubs are on good terms we can nab a few of your youngsters on loan to help us out. I actually cannot wait to see your first team next season (havent seen us play a good team in 5+ years) , roll on next pre-season!
Aye? Was a quality day mate, we had it down as a tough one but we absolutely bossed it, I remember the atmosphere was great in our end! I sort of miss those mad old grounds, always seemed a bit livelier!
Sure phil gray scored and it was the 1st time I ever heard the cheer up peter reid song. So thaumeams it must have been about september/oct 95?
