Fowler was offered £100 a week and £5,000 bonus for every first-team appearance. Did Blackpool seriously expect to sign someone on those wages?! ...He might be 35 and passed it but still!...Well, if someone offered me that money to play football I would bite their hand off, but in today´s modern world no footballer is going to expect that. ...I suppose this just shows how ridiculous football wages have become. Did anyone see what Robbie Savage had to say about the wages in football? I agree with him completely, there are too many mediocre/sh*t footballers earning ridiculous amounts. e.g Joey Barton (How can such a pr*ck earn so much money) Maybe it´ s time we start putting limits on what footballers earn. Just look at how many teams are in financial trouble. Maybe £100 a week is going a too far, but something like a maxium of £50,000 a week...That is still ridiculous money though. What do you think?
I don't think it's that bad an offer, they were effectively offering him 5K a week, not that bad an offer, on the assumption that he will be fit enough to play. The reason the 5K would have just been an appearance bonus would be just in case he is not fit enough, which is fair enough, cos you don't wanna be having to fork out massive wages to somebody who cannot play.
He tweeted the other day that is was 90 a week and he only got the appearance fee if he completed the full 90 minutes.
Hilarious if true. He certainly does not need the money, but it's a bit of a slap in the face nonetheless.
All credit to Blackpool. Giving him £3k or £5k or £10k a week would have been a complete waste of money, considering how little he'd probably feature them. Certainly no way to run a business. And as for Fowler, he's absoloutely loaded and is basically in retirement. Blackpool were offering him the chance to get out of the television studio again, and let him do the thing he loves for one last time. How much he'd be getting paid for the privilage shouldn't have come into it.
They have already done this in the last year. Can't remember the guys name but he was crashing with John O'Shea (I think) and training with United as they signed him years ago. My value adding done, i'm off.
Somehow guys I think that might be a bit of a leg pull don't you? That as they say is well below the minimum wage even for a school boy not yet on professional terms. No it is a leg pull for publicity....nothing more.
Well if they hadn't have paid £11m to that Director....(they'd have the oldest front line in the world - Fowler and Phillips).
Cheers Joey It only confirms my belief that they are cheap-skates. (No pun intended Pompey) Talk about taking an advantage.....They should be hung drawn a quartered then hung out to dry!!!
