I think he benefitted from first team football and seeing what the real world was like. He clearly knew he had to go away and think about his game and work hard on it, he did and he is reaping the rewards. Stewart did the exact opposite.
I used to wonder if he'd even been instructed NOT to cross the ball last season. He seemed to want to take any other option he could. This season, he is whipping them in and it's making a difference. He can be brilliant at times, and doesn't get mugged off going backwards too often either.
I think his stint at left back for Utd on there pre-season tour and in Utd reserves has really helped him.
His striking of the ball can be wild at times, particularly at set-pieces but generally his attacking play has come on leaps and bounds from last season. I still think he cannot defend and the wing-back role leaves him too much responsibility, in fact, for their goal it looked like his man that was left with a tap-in on the replay. Still, if he's going yo give away a few the best way to repay it is by sticking a few in/setting a few up too.
He wasn't that bad for us last season. He chipped in with some good goals that kept us ticking over. He is better this season though. You can tell he's enjoying it more.
He's a proper enigma when it comes to set pieces. His corners are quality, as are his crosses from open play, yet his indirect free kicks are erratic to say the least.
I think his corners are just as inconsistent tbh. He often does those little bobbling one's that can't beat the first man. Although his free-kicks are definitely more wild, that one at Brighton barely stayed in the ground.
It's not just him that's inconsistent with set pieces. That one when everyone had gone forward and Quinn tapped it sideways to Elmo and we ****ed about with it for 5 passes before Stockdale hoofed it towards the box was ridiculous. It's always nice to see us scoring from a corner though, we've got some big lads in this side and apart from Faye we don't score enough.
He sure did, a fluke nd a nice finish both winners v reading. I think he was instructed to cut in and shot rather than cross last season, because 1) he was playing on ye right 2) Stewart was on the left doing the exact same things and 3) there was no bastard to cross too. I think his set pieces are generally quite poor for the most part, I believe Tom carney is our best player for those things.
Cairney's out best dead ball player by a mile, both free kicks and corners, but if he's not on the pitch he can't take them obviously!
