    http://www.themag.co.uk/the-mag-art...per-rob-elliot-walked-club-last-night-spoke/?

I’ve only ever written for the Mag once before back in the days when it was printed (it feels strange to say that now doesn’t it?!).

However, I felt that a conversation I had last night is worth sharing.

Before I start I think it’s fair to say, as we all know, that the club is being run as a vehicle to promote Sports Direct. In my opinion Pardew is the club’s sole mouthpiece to lower fan expectations so that we’re happy with our lot of being a mid-table side with no ambition to kick on, go on cup runs etc etc.

rob elliotYou know what? It’s worked. Over the last 3 years the fans have, are currently and will continue to listen to the rubbish that streams out of his mouth on a daily basis, and it’s gotten to the stage where he puts our great club down so much that some of his players lap it up too.

    But I digress!

I was in a club last night and I saw Rob Elliot walk in. I couldn’t help but go over to talk to him to gauge the feeling in the NUFC dressing room at the moment. All I can say is that you can tell he’s currently playing for Alan Pardew! (I’ll get to that in a bit)

To begin with he was quite nice and agreed we’d been playing poorly and promised the players are trying their hardest to turn it all around. I laughed and said ‘how can we expect that? We’ve lost 11 out of our last 16 games and I see no signs of it turning around. ‘

Elliot then said, well the fans need to stay with us and at the minute they’re turning after a few bad results, which is unfair on Pardew as he’s doing a great job under difficult circumstances. He seemed to forget that we’ve been awful for months, not just 4 games. He was having none of it and bleated on about work rate and other things that apparently help you win football matches (yes, because it’s working at the moment, eh?).

I proceeded to tell him that we’ve never came back to win a game when trailing at half-time under Pardew. He got aggressive and barked that it was “total lies.” I pushed him on this remark and asked him when was the last time we won from a losing position at half-time? He told me they had done it with Pardew at Charlton!!!

We talked more about how we could counter this run of form and I asked why Ben Arfa wasn’t in the side. I think we all know that Pardew can’t get the best out of the lad and he’s being wasted at Newcastle.

Of course I’m wrong, according to Pards and Elliot. Elliot lambasted Ben Arfa by saying he’s only set up, at most, 3 goals this season and that HBA has been SOLELY responsible for 7-8 goals that we’ve conceded this season. According to Elliot the players hate him as he has no work rate and that he hasn’t the right attitude. If that’s true I can understand why, when he’s told to defend rather than attack…

I told Eliott that the last time we scored a goal was due to the work of Ben Arfa. Yes, he replied, but he has no work rate.

I kept telling him that this was Pardew rhetoric coming out of his mouth and that he’s been brainwashed. It truly was like having a conversation with a Pardew drone.

I left him with one last thing:

I told him that I believe Pardew to be a charlatan that’s scared to play football and he’s ruined the best squad we’ve had in 10 years. I said a real manager with attacking intent would get the best out of our players. Somebody like, Keegan.

He then proceeded to tell me that Keegan is a worse manager than Pardew and had no respect from the players. I raged at this point and had to push him on the fact that Keegan made the Newcastle fans BELIEVE in ourselves and showed us how great Newcastle United can truly be.

His argument was that the Newcastle fans think they deserve to be in the Champions League by rights and we need to know our level. I disagreed.

‘Where should we be then?’ he asked.

I replied that just a bit of fight, belief and trying to play games with attacking intent could secure a higher PL finish than we’ll ever achieve with cowardly football and tactics.

‘Na’, he says. ‘8th or 9th is our level.

I think it is this Chris Ward character who has embarrassed himself. I'm surprised Eliott didn't just laugh in his face or worse. Why on earth would you go up to a player enjoying time off outside his day job to grill him on what's going on at work. What an absolute dickish thing to do. You can picture the scene. Elliot tries to reel out the party line to get this knob off his case, only to be contiually pursued. Sounds like this is obviously some youngun who has decided to give it the biggun. One thing venting on a forum but this is just the actions of a ****.

Elliot is bang on the money too about our level. He is also bang on the money about HBA. He has shown a bit of a lack of statistical knowledge though about coming from behind etc but hardly a massive crime.

To then move onto the KK rhetoric, FFS.

Sometimes I'm embarrassed by our own supporters. The Mag - no wonder its going down the pan if this is the level of what they class as public interest.

A non-story of an article written by someone looking to make Elliot look like a d***.
FFS, what did he expect the lad to say.
A bit privacy for the likes of Elliot would be a better idea than haranguing them, when no doubt they just want to be left alone.

Like Pardew, Eliot belongs in League One and "8th or 9th" in the Premier League is probably fcking incredible given his/their limitations. I think we have a small club mentality, driven by Pardew, that's ok for a few games and if your small minded players are giving 100% and one of your big-time players pulls something out of a bag, you can win.

What we have now is a bunch of small minded players with no-one to inspire them. Maybe we should revert back to the old SJP capacity and erase the managerial exploits of Kevin Keegan and SBR.

    Elliot can **** off.

Can you imagine if Krul goes and this no-mark is our number one next season? Yes, I felt a cold shudder going through my body too.

Don't agree with harrassing players in their free time to be honest. A quick shake of the hand, wish them luck for the next game etc but to ask what's going on in terms of the atmosphere in the dressing room etc is just wrong. If someone asked me what was going on in my job, what I thought of my manager etc i'd tell them where to go.

I think the problem with what Elliott's said regarding 8th or 9th is we we're at as a club both right and wrong. It is where we are, but in Janaury if we keep Cabaye and add a winger and another striker we then become anything from 4th to 7th and that's the frustrating thing for the fans. We're only 3 or 4 players away from being top 7 (whilst playing good football) but also only 3 or 4 injuries away from 3 wins in 16 games. Sign the three or four players and that way when you get a couple of injuries you still level out at top half form.

    It's a very sobering thought.
Irrespective of Krul still being here or not, its obvious that we need a better 2nd choice keeper than Elliot.
Back to MA to sort out and provide the funds.

I don't rate him I have to say and I'm convinced its why Krul's level has dropped. In Harper he had genuine competition.

This kid who has approached him in this manner is an absolute bell end though. No need for it, and the work of someone lacking a brain. Embarrassing.

I thought that too. If he thinks we are a 8th/9th team then unless we greatly strengthen for next season we'll be 20th/16th level for sure.

My older brother was a better keeper than Rob Elliot, he played semi-professional football at Darleston, he was their number one and had terrific reflexes, not so much agility but he could leap, kick and catch. Elliot on the other hand is awful.

It stops at the top. If Ashley were in disagreement with Pardew's 'small club mentality' then he would not have stood by him. The fact is Mike Ashley has a 'small club' future in mind for us. Consistently scraping by and providing Sports Direct with all that Premier League advertising for the least possible expense is what it's all about. Pardew needs to go, but Mike will make sure whoever comes in will be constrained by this same miserable vision.

It is just all round bollocks (no offence Roland). If anything the bloke has delusions of grandeur. He often starts talking CL the minute we get on a decent run, forgetting that we have mid table players in the main, and lower table squad depth. He struggles to align his ambition with the reality of his situation. Pardew would love to be in charge of a big club, he just patently isn't. This little embarrassing upstart has also failed to grasp this. Indeed Elliot for all being a limited player, at least appears to have a grasp on reality.

Newcastle United is the biggest job Pardew has and will ever have - Perhaps that's why he feels the need to hold on despite all that is going on around him.

Very true. We're not a big club as such though. Obviously various ways of defining this, but I simply mean in what we aim for. i.e. the ambition of the owner.

On another note, Newcastle won't challenge higher than eighth in the league unless they spend. You're in the same situation as Southampton. Small squad and when key players are out you struggle. Calling for pardew to be sacked though. Who else will come in, Bruce? You may get the odd cup run, just enjoy being in the premier league!
