There are eight all non-league ties in the FA Cup First Round Proper, meaning at least eight participants in Round Two. How many non-league sides do you think will get through in total?
Fleetwood Town seem like an good choice, 2nd in BSP v Wycombe, 23rd in League 1. I'll take Barrow to win v Rotherham, so 10.
I love this round of the FA Cup. I played a few games in the FA Cup for non-league teams, including knocking out Exeter City in rnd 1 when I played for Bognor Regis. We unfortunately lost in the 2nd rnd, 1 nil to Cambridge United when they were a league side.... they went on to play Steve Williams' Arsenal in the 3rd round - how peed off was I? I still get excited now when this round comes up. It's a big, big day for those non-league teams.
I think I only played against Sutton a couple of times. I remember a 1-1 draw at home. I think you beat Coventry the year we beat Exeter... very close to that anyway.
There is a always a couple of huge upsets in the first round involving non-league sides so I'll go with 10
I love this round aswell! It's massive for the non-league clubs. The dream is the 3rd round, that's as good as winning the cup itself for them. Every non-league club across the country could well use the revenue generated from reaching the 3rd round. The fact that these clubs can compete in the same tournement as the big boys of the Premiership and the Football League makes the FA Cup that bit extra special!
Another thorough article Dev. I remember when you used to run these along with the FA cup comp on the BBC site.
Well I was close. Fleetwood won, Rotherham scored two late goals to win 2-1. Luton beat Rotherham so 10 non league teams definitely through so far.
Well there will be at least TEN non-league sides in Round Two, courtesy of wins over League sides by Fleetwood (2-0 v Wycombe) and Luton Town (1-0 v Northampton Town). That number could be swelled to 14, as Four other non-league sides gained replays against league opposition; Bath City (against Dagenham & Redbridge), Maidenhead (against Aldershot), Stourbridge (against Plymouth Argyle) and Grimsby Town (against Port Vale). Our Road to Wembley fixture finished Chelmsford City 4-0 AFC Telford. The Clarets will be at home to League Two side Macclesfield Town in Round Two.
