That's a total disgrace - first they brought in that 3 year average nonsense to save them and now this. Well shady
I was reading Tim Vickerys blog on the BBC and he said that something would happen to make sure River Plate stayed up. Argentina were trying to promote football in other areas outside of the capital, hence why all games, except the final, were played outwith Buenos Aires. Now by regionalising the leagues it means the small teams will play other small teams, while the central to Buenos Aires will play each other
Their name came from the crates that arrived in the harbour for that area apparently. I watched the "football rivalries" thing about them on ESPN Classic the other night. The story behind how Boca Juniors got their colours was a decent pub anecdote as well
I have absolutely no idea how football leagues in South America work, far too much ****ing about, all I know is it's as corrupt as ****!!
Yeah, but their name is in English instead of Spanish because goods bound for BA and the surrounding area had that stamp on the crates - according to ESPN anyway
Do the people who arrange these things not realise how embarassingly it reflects on their spineless selves.
Haha, I've never really thought about it being in Enghlish and not Spanish, the Spanish being Rio de la Plata or some bollocks. My apologies for trying to take the **** out of you!
Exactly, you'd never hear of something like that happening in the SPL for instance. Those clever dudes wouldn't ever dream of fecking with the structure so that the league splits in two and some teams have more home games than others or something like that. Thank god our football authorities are sendible.
Do you think they really care though Jackie? I'd guess it will go down well in Aregntina so that's all they're bpothered about. And when the next big scandal pops up it will be some other sap charged wiyth making the decision and on and on it will go. All based on short term thinking to do the least damage to your popularity rather than credibility.
Nae hassle - they originally played in the Boca region - there was something about the reason they moved to Belgrano - can't remember properly but I think it was the first Superclassico and the losers agreed to leave Boca as it couldn't host more than one big team. Boca's colours used to be black and white thin hoops (like Queen's Park) but another team in BA had the same colours - they had a game to see who had the right to wear these colours and Boca lost. Their president said that the colours of the next ship into the harbour would be Boca's new colours - the next ship was Swedish and they took their colours from the Swedish flag on board
There's a horse of that name running in the biggie at Goodwood tomorrow - Rio de la Plata I mean and not ****......
What price is it? Will you stick a monkey on it for me, my account isn't working, I'll send it over to you next week, cheers.
Why do we translate only half of Bayern Munchen into English? A full translation would be Bavaria Munich, but we don't translate the Bayern part for some reason.
:emoticon-0136 To be honest it has about as much chance of winning as Amy Winehouse does of playing the O2 this Christmas.
