As we all know, certain sections of Pompey fans have a high level animosity toward our nearest and dearest down the road; and the feeling is reciprocated by certain sections of their fans.

However, this is not always the case between sets of geographically close sets of fans.

As I lived there for many years I will take Devon as an example. The hostility between Plymouth Argyle and Exeter City fans is on a level arguably similar to the Pompey/Saints fans. However, Plymouth (and I think Exeter also) fans seem to have no such malice toward Torquay Utd Fans.

What other examples can you think of where there are close teams, where one would expect to see football fan type hostility between the two sets of fans, but where there doesn't appear to be any?

    Good question Dev.
Don't the two Dundee clubs have some weird pact at away games?

One of the most famous friendly derbies is between Atletico Bilbao and Real Sociedad, both Basque teams being quite local to each other. Before games between these two sides, all the fans meet up in Bilbao or San Sebastian main square, for a big BBQ/lash up and get horribly drunk, then head off to the stadium together, where they sit in seats next to each other and enjoy being Basques, over and above who actually wins the game. Marvellous.

They hate each and every other team from outside the region, it seems, especially Real Madrid, however!
