I've watched very little of Barcelona recently but over the last few years I would have said Busquets is absolutely vital to the way they played. Without any doubt.

They could have used Mascherano there I suppose but he plays centre half.

So key, they tried to replace him with Song <whistle>

There are plenty of holding players, equally as good, if not better than Busquettes

Barcelona sold Yaya to keep biscuits and Song was bought purely as cover and nothing more.

Biscuits allows the other 3 to do their thing. Without him....well..... Barcelona would be a hell of a lot more vulnerable.

hes the makalele of their team.

And they'd be ****ed without him rolling around pretending to be injured every five minutes. Gives the other players a nice breather to make sure they can press all game, with the added benefit of the odd few yellow cards for the opponents.

He's the Drogba / Luiz / Hazard / Suarez / Bale of their team in that regard <ok>

They didn't want to sell Yaya Toure they just weren't prepared to pay him 250k a week, and Man City where. As for Song I watch a lot of La Liga, and for the first few months of the season he was starting ahead of Busquetes, the year they bought him. Busquetes is a decent player, but he isn't anything special, and there are plenty of holding players better than him, that could play that role in the Barca side just as well

Pep obviously rated Busquets.

first choice in midfield for several seasons.
So consistent that pep Never tried to replace Toure
Song signed after pep left I think in 2012

Wasn't Busquets injured a bit during the start of 12/13?

He played 41 games that season to Song's 25. Xavi played 43 and iniesta 42

So you agree with UIR, that not having a Busquetes at Bayern is one of the reasons his possesion football isn't as effective?

Do you think he is a better holding player than Schweinstieger, or Lahm?

I personally think he is not fit to lace the boots of either:biggrin:

Biscuit was the perfect foil for the other 3.

Lahm and pigfucker are not. Better players? Maybe. Better for that role in that squad? Nah.

In a way I agree, I reckon he believes any team can play like that. He believes that's how football should be played and therefore anyone and everyone should play it that way. The other purist in North London is dumb as well as stubborn. Just didn't get the physical side of the game for too long.

Question then, if he was available tomorrow, would you not want Pep?
not sure really .. tbh even best managers will need time to adjust to PL style of football
Pep produced one of best football i ever seen with Barca, but he is not a proven manager yet .. so it is kind a gamble
meanwhile, given our horrible experience with Moyes, I prefer someone like Pep who like to attack over managers who try to play safe football
look what attacking football turned Liverpool into
