Just in case anyone doubts how poor he was that day, an utterly biased Arsenal blog had this to say:

"The 74th minute was arguably the most controversial in the match. In the space of 10 seconds Tottenham lost 2 penalty appeals and had a perfectly good goal disallowed."
"So overall it was an absolute shocker for Chris Foy. Wrong decisions favoured Stoke by nearly 2:1 and he only got 1 out of 3 calls right for Spurs."

It's safe to say that we're not fans and the 4th official was in charge for both the Mendes non-goal and the Nani handball goal, both of which were at Old Trafford.

I think all Arsenal, Chelsea and West Ham fans would agree it was diabolical refereeing, although the disallowed offside goal wasn't his cock-up.

I thought he was worse in this game than he was for Chelsea in the QPR game myself, but then again at least he actually gave you a decision. <laugh>

You would think 2 weeks running after United get favourable decisions there would be some respite for opposition teams <laugh>

Me and my Spurs housemate were discussing this just hours ago as to what would go against Spurs at OT this season and now it has before a ball has even been kicked <laugh>

The only thing worse would be if Graham Poll or Tom Henning Ovrebo came out of retirement to ref this game <ok>

QPR V Chelsea - 23rd October

Stoke v Spurs - 11th December.

What's strange is that they scheduled Foy to ref our game v Stoke and with no unbeknownst reason to me Michael Oliver did instead. Foy must have been bricking it and pulled a sicky <ok>

Jones hacking down Bale when he was clear though and not getting anything would be my main one, but Probert had a good game, overall.
Probably why he's not involved this season.
I think it's fair to say that there's been quite a long list of games between the two clubs recently where decisions have gone your way, though.

I concede that you were better in the Prem' than us last season - that's obvious. But by no stretch of the imagination are you more a top 4 team than us.

And let's forget top 4 we are top 2 - we are far and away the second best team in this country in this Millennium.

At the end of the day we are way more successful than Spurs, certainly in this century which is about as far back as I would go for teams to bear a remote resemblance to players still playing today / just finished their playing career.

Sorry but what this comes down to is comprehension. 'Top 4' has always referred to the league so when you say that a side is top 4, they have to be in the top 4 of the league. Chelsea finished 6th last season and are by definition not a 'top 4' team. Trophies won and any kind of history or performance in other competitions has no bearing on being a top 4 side, that would be relevent if someone was discussing who's the bigger club or who had a better season.

'Big 4' was used to describe the 4 biggest clubs at a time when 4 top teams were almost set in granite and I think that's where the confusions coming from. There is no Big 4 anymore but you're trying to use things that made them the big 4, like finishing in the top 4 consistently(note the implication of top 4 only applying to one year at a time here) and to a lesser extent, winning trophies.

Being a 'top 4' team is very simple, you don't have to prove anything other than that you finished in the top 4. Same with Chelsea being European Champions, no one can take it away from you because of your performance in another competition, it can't be argued with. As another example Southampton are a Premier League team, they got promoted last season and now play in the Premier League. They don't need to have been in the Premier League for years or win a cup to be a Premier League team, they just are and only a nutter would contest that they are.

Last year in Manchester, Spurs w/o Modric, Adebayor and Parker did a good job holding Man U off for a half plus, thanks mainly to Kaboul defending brilliantly and Kranjcar out of position being able to keep possession, IMO. Then we collapsed completely in the last, what was it, ten minutes?

Given our record in Manchester, it's hard to be optimistic, but for some reason I'm not that pessimistic. AVB tends to press and play a high line (even away; he did it against Newcastle). So I tend to think he'll try it here.

As I said we'll have to agree to disagree but common consensus is that City, United, Chelsea and Arsenal are the top 4 <ok>
 
I was going to take a break but luke,you're incredible,unbelievable. Going to all that trouble to find and post all the scores for the past goodness knows how long just to prove what point? That Utd have been much better than Spurs over the years? Something that we all know. Ffs take your obsessive behaviour somewhere else. Also as I started the debate about 4th and 6th,Spurs finished 4th,Chelsea finished 6th so Spurs are top 4 and Chelsea are top 6 no matter how you Chelsea supporters embellish it.
 
What exactly isn't a point that everybody accepts Luke? There have been some bad decisions go against Spurs at Trafford ie Berb's goal that was a couple of feet over the line and not given. Not all matches have been bad decisions so what are you trying to prove posting all those scores? If you recall Spurs hadn't beaten Chelsea or Arsenal for a while but when the win came more followed which will happen when we beat Utd again whenever that will be.

You're arguing opinion against fact, DL.
Chelsea didn't finish in the top 4, so you're not a top 4 club.
That's what the words actually mean.
 
Have to agree with the Spurs fans on this one. It's obvious that they finished 4th last season, meaning they are a top four side. Until they finish a season outside of the top four (whether that be this season or 10 years time) they will remain a top four side. It's really not difficult to grasp.

Are Man City not champions because they've only won the league once in 50 odd years? If that's the case then we all may as well not turn up on a match day and just give Fergie title number 20.
