R.I.P Good commentator imho , he just soooo excited at times . I am gutted . If you like reading , read his autobiography !
How very strange. Was watching a rerun of the 1987 British Grand Prix on Sky today, and his commentary made me chuckle. After the race I looked up his Wikipedia page to see how old he is now. Very strange timing. Anyway, I’m gutted. What a gentleman. With him go not one but several eras of motor racing.
It says an awful lot more about your character to deliver that 4-word damning assumption of one of the most popular sporting voices of all time just minutes after news of his passing than it does about Murray Walkers ability. You have every right to disagree with his popularity, but timing when to share it is a choice you control. For the definition of decorum and empathy, you might want to YouTube Murray’s delivery throughout the tragic events of Imola 1994 to see that it is not only possible, but is an art.
My wife just told me. Gutted. What a legend. No commentator has come close to matching. Well in fitting fashion I salute Murray with my dinner (Diniz) in the oven!
I have only just seen this now, and I am literally in bits. Murray Walker wasn't just the voice of F1 for me as a kid, he was F1. His excitement, his enthusiasm, his knowledge, his utter love for the sport is what helped me become so attached to this sport almost 40 years ago. F1 was never the same without him, he could make even the dullest or races seem exciting somehow, more so when the commentary was delivered over what sounded like a bakelite phone. Even his gaffs were pure gold. I am utterly gutted to hear of his passing. Rest in peace old friend. You will be sorely missed!
Underlines why he's so well liked by so many people, so long after he hung up his mic. I wonder if any of the current crop will have the same impact, have such a long career in F1, and be as fondly remembered 2 decades after they finish. Depends what we want from our commentators of course, and everyone has their own preferences. But I do miss what he brought. Thanks for posting that, Ern. It's sad news, but that link brings back a lot of chuckles, and I'm sure that's how Murray would want it.
Almost missed bbc program 'Murray Walker :a life in the fast lane' full of great memories of Murray. If you can watch it on iplayer it's a great watch for 60mins.
Only 51 as well, seems like she had long battle with cancer. She always seemed so cheerful, bubbly, and was a great driver. Best wishes to her family and friends.
