Brazilian midfield legend Socrates has died aged just 57. Socrates was one of the most skillful players ever, making the game look easy. Two footed, tall and usually sporting a bead, he cut an imposing figure on the pitch. He had problems with alcohol and was often seen with a cigarette hanging out of his mouth, a player from a by gone age, but his vices didn't seem to affect his performances on the pitch. He was part of the great Brazilian team in the 1982 World Cup. Although Italy eventually went on to win the competition, it was Brazil with Socrates, Zico and Falcao - who lit up the competition for me. RIP Socrates
Looked like a great player from the clips and matches I watched from the 1982 world cup on ESPN Classic. Cool as it gets. R.I.P
He was a class act SuperJack - The Brazil 82 side was considered to be one of the best ever. The fact that he drank and smoked like a trooper, just makes his achievements even more astounding.
From the clips ive seen he looked like a great player, its a shame that the current Brazil team cant come close to that team.
Spain are taking over. Brazil was the face of football and the team you would think of when you think about skill and great football. With Nike behind them they where that team. Now playing all around the world to get money and so on. But Spain are becoming that team now. I blame Dunga.
