The old boy passed away at the fine old age of 29.

A seriously impressive Derby winner who was never the same again after an injury after the Derby.Could have turned out to be a great horse had this not have happened.

    RIP old fella

Brilliant racehorse, Remember rushing back from work to see the Derby as I had lumped on Slip Anchor after the Lingfield Derby Trial. 50 quid e/w at 9/4 if I remember correctly. Very impressive Derby winner, Nothing was travelling better coming down the hill. Such a shame injury altered his progressive form. RIP Slip Anchor...

I put this photo up on the Daily Thread when SLIP ANCHOR's death was announced yesterday:

It was taken at Plantation Stud last year by Emma Berry, wife of trainer John Berry.

I also meant to add that another top class sire passed away this week in RAHY, at the age of 26. The son of Blushing Groom stood at Three Chimney's Farm in Kentucky and was out of GLORIOUS SONG, making him a half brother to the globe-trotting SINGSPIEL.

His best progeny to race in Europe were FANTASTIC LIGHT, NOVERRE, and more recently RIO DE LA PLATA, but he was also hugely successful as a broodmare sire with his daughters producing the likes of GIANT'S CAUSEWAY and LIFE AT TEN.

Amazing horse. I've been following UK racing for about four years now and hadn't taken a look at Slip Anchor's Derby win...until just now. I couldn't understand the commentary and didn't know the horses colours, so all I could do was watch the race unfold, not knowing anything about it. Coming down the hill toward Tattenham, the leader scarpered. And he kept on scarpering down the straight. A wonderful ride on a very talented horse.
