Saints fan in peace. Great, great player, remember his arrival from you guys, a bargain buy at £55,000? A true Saints legend and a very nice, unassuming guy. Met him many times in town as Ron was about 12 years older than me and it was in the days when Saints players could always be found at clubs and pubs in town and Ron was always very, very approachable and chatty. Sad day, I feel a bit gutted.
Tigers fan here - sorry to hear this news. I remember seeing him a few times on "Sportsnight with Coleman" when I was growing up. condolences to his family and the teams he is associated with
only managed to see him a handful of times due to military commitments, but he was awesome. a true legend. RIP Ron.
Just read a great quote about Ron Davies from Geoffrey Watling when we signed him from Luton "if you fail your medical, we will sack the doctor"
Mick Channon was quoted yesterday saying that Ron Davies headed the ball harder than he, Mick Channon could kick it! RD's story is rather sad, but not untypical of a great many professional footballers in the bad old days, before TV and other commercial revenues produced the millionaires of today. He coached briefly in the States but spent the latter years of his life in a mobile home on New Mexico building sites. Three or so years ago, Saints fans organised an appeal to fund an eye operation he needed but hadn't the money for.
