So young, my super fit 53 year old work colleague and neighbour was diagnosed with an aggressive brain tumour last September and was dead within the month. No Grove, he did not play for Queens Park Rangers. please log in to view this image Mark Farren scored 114 goals for League of Ireland club Derry City Former Derry City and Glenavon striker Mark Farren has died, aged 33. Farren, Derry's record goalscorer, had been receiving treatment for an aggressive brain tumour and his death was announced on Wednesday. The Donegal man played for City from 2003 to 2012, scoring 114 goals in 209 appearances for the club. Among those to pay tribute to Farren was West Bromwich Albion and Republic of Ireland winger James McClean, who played alongside him for Derry. please log in to view this image Republic of Ireland winger James McClean paid tribute to Mark Farren City chairman Phillip O'Doherty said: "We offer our sympathies to his family. "He was a superb player and I think the entire football community throughout Ireland would say the same. "But, most of all, he was a decent human being." Last year, an appeal was launched to pay for Farren to travel to a cancer centre in Mexico for emergency treatment. He became Derry City's all-time top goalscorer in 2012, when he overtook Liam Coyle's tally of 112. Farren was in the Derry teams that won the FAI Cup in 2006 and 2012, and was voted player of the year by the Professional Footballers' Association of Ireland in 2005. He left Derry to join Irish League club Glenavon in 2013 but was forced to quit the game because of his illness. please log in to view this image Mark Farren pictured with his wife Terri-Louise in 2015 please log in to view this image Mark Farren pictured with Ciaran Martyn and James McClean during a Derry City match in 2009 http://www.bbc.com/sport/football/35481068
Heard about this on the news earlier tonight. I seen him play live a few times and I was always impressed. He was every bit as good as McClean if not better. 33 years is no age. RIP.
Too young...and with such a young wife RIP Mark The rest of us...let us be grateful for every day we have...and live life to the full
It's scary, isn't it? You just don't know what's around the corner waiting for you, do you? How his family must be suffering.
As for my friend Mark, here is photo of him and his family on vacation last summer in mid August at their camp by the river, diagnosed with aggressive brain tumour early September, died October 9th - so totally devastating for the family. A really good guy too, always more than willing to help someone out if he could. please log in to view this image
It's a truly tragic tale Killy. I can't imagine what Mark's family and friends are going through right now. Your photo gives a sad reality to your story. Just a regular man enjoying life with his family. And then all of a sudden gone. Life is cruel. Bloody hell! Sorry mate.
