He had a rather modest terraced house in Rainville Road Fulham/Hammersmith next door to friends of mine. When her father died he used to pop in and have a cup of tea with her mum when he wasn't touring or living in LA. I met him a few times and he was a really nice bloke despite the façade. He always appeared drunk though, not that it makes him a bad person. ;)

A mate of mine went to see Motörhead play a gig at Reading Uni in the late 80's.

Anyway the gig was very good until the end as the local Hell's Angels turned up and went mad on their bikes riding around the Uni grounds. My mate told me it was a proper scary experience even tho nobody was hurt in any way.

Lemmy was a proper rock legend imo<ok>

    RIP!

    Very sad news.

"We're Motörhead, we play rock 'n roll" Greatest opening line I've ever heard. You knew what you got with Lemmy and Motörhead, pure rock 'n roll.

One of the greatest characters in the history of music. They sure don't make them like that anymore.

    RIP Lemmy <rose>

Last saw Lemmy and 'Motorhead' play at Guilfest in 2009 and they were still f****** awesome....

Playing 'Motorhead' by Hawkwind right now in his memory !

A true rock legend. RIP Lemmy

What a shocker, totally out of the blue. The ultimate hard rocker. I first saw him in Hawkwind back in 1973, he was sacked from the band not long after and Motorhead were born, this is one of rock's greatest songs. He was the 'Ace of Spades'...

    RIP Lemmy...

His recent history was troubled with health issues, but this still comes as a shock. He was the sort that you thought would confound the medical profession and just go on and on.

Rest in peace? Nah, make one hell of a noise up there, Lemmy!

I met him once in the early 80's I was wearing an Iron Maiden t shirt, Lemmy said to me "I personally know Bruce Dickinson, he's a w£&@?r".
Lemmy was rock'n'roll and there'll never be another like him.

I've been to 100's of metal gigs over the years but when I saw motorhead in Hammersmith in 91 my ears rang for days absolutely brilliant. RIP Lemmy, Legend.

If anyone has a spare hour, the BBC documentary on Hawkwind from a few years back is well worth a watch as it shows what a glorious f***** up, mad life the guy lived in......
