Josh Gifford has died aged 70.

He was the rascally Ryan Price's main jockey in the 60's and took up training after retiring from the saddle.

Although I remember a lot of his mounts, the one stand-out for me is Honey End in the "Foinavon" Grand National, where he remounted and finished like a train to almost catch Foinavon.

RIP Josh - you gave us a lot of excitement.

    Yep, very sad.
I remember a (drunk) friend of mine rugby tackling him at Folkestone many years ago after a horse of Giffords, Sir Percy, had won a novice hurdle, he quickly called security and asked for the offender to be removed.
What actually happened is that my friend, having backed the horse, wanted to thank and congratulate Gifford but stumbled in the process of doing so, this was explained to security and duly passed on to Gifford who them came over shook our hands and chatted with us for a few minutes.
    A true NH legend
    RIP
