Died of cancer, just 59 years of age. I've only read 2 of his books (Wasp Factory and Transition), but I would definitely recommend them and will read the rest of his work poste haste <peacedove>

A real shame. He was a genuinely nice bloke. I'd highly recommend The Crow Road and Whit and The Bridge.

Agreed - mostly - if I was recommending something by Banks other than The Wasp Factory it would be The Crow Road, Whit and Espedair Street, The Bridge never really done it for me. The Steep Approach To Garadale( sp?) was also good...his last I think.

Surely if a Scottish cancer specialist tells you that you have weeks to live, the best thing to do is jump on the next plane to Libya? You could have enjoyed a couple more years Iain.
