R.I.P <peacedove> - not many in recent years have won the Derby and the King George, a great achievement.

Sad to report that Derby winner GENEROUS has died at the age of 25.

Very sad to hear that, his Derby and King George processions will live long in the memory. I also saw him win the Dewhurst at 50/1 which makes me feel old <yikes>. His name lives on via his offspring and I see he is starting to have a few winners in the NH sphere.

    RIP Generous <rose>

Generous spent his last few years at stud as a National Hunt stallion, so you'll certainly see most of his runners from here on in over obstacles.

He was pretty unique in that he debuted over 5f in early May as a 2-y-o and went on to win the Derby.

RIP Generous - a great horse who left his stamp and continues to do so with his NH bred progeny.

Buy he had a good and long life, when so many good horses go too soon. 25 years - probably around 70 years in human terms <ok>

I'm getting close meself, but I doubt I've had as many legovers as Generous <laugh>

He was a really, really good colt and as Dexter says he was a 5f winner and I believe ran in the Coventry at Royal Ascot.

He lives on as the sire of the good mare Highland Gift, who has produced Golan, Tartan Bearer and others (watch out for Auld Alliance this year). He's also got a couple of good jumpers with Henderson including Close Touch.

A great piece by Tony Morris in today's Racing Post on Generous' death. He focuses on the Nijinsky sire line and its ability to produce great racehorses, but few good sires. If I get the chance I'll type it up.

Worth mentioning he was a beautiful Chestnut as well, lovely looking individual, and he has passed this on to many off his offspring:

    R.I.P. Generous, a superb-looking and fine racehorse <rose>

(It is worth mentioning that he really did put jockey Alan Munro on the map. The stylish Munro had just taken-over from Richard Quinn (who had fallen out of favour with the owner) when winning the Derby on Generous. Think is was DanStarkey who mentioned recently that Alan is still doing very well and enjoying life immensely on the Malaysian/Singapore circuit, and a few weeks ago rode the winner of the prestigious Singapore Gold Cup).
