Very sad to hear that Cue Card has passed away. A true warrior and as genuine as they come, he gave connections an incredible amount to be proud of during his long career. RIP
Oh, that is very sad news indeed. One of my favourite racehorses of all time. RIP Cue Card, old fella, you were a great warrior indeed. Tizzard family rocked by death of Cue Card after heart attack | At The Races
A heart attack whilst out having his morning canter. Not a bad way to go. Magnificent racehorse and a real game changer for his yard.
I was at the festival in 2011 when he ran in the Supreme Novices Hurdle and, with no hot Irish fav I think many people backed Cue Card. I love watching the replay when, after the 3rd last hurdle, the commentator says “Cue Card starts to make ground between rivals” and there is a huge roar from the crowd. Wasn’t to be that day but what a race for the ages.
Longevity and yet so many “what if” moments in his career. He was a very talented horse who gave Paddy Brennan some fine moments but also a lot of sleepless nights (if you can find his Matt Chapman interview it is worth a listen). He took part in one of the great finishes of a King George (even if I had a decent bet on Vautour) and his Betfair wins were brilliant. It however comes to that fall on the Gold Cup day that probably means that he’s remembered for longevity and successes rather than being an equal to Long Run and the pair who came before. That is the joy and heartbreak of jumps racing.
