Died today aged 69 His ride on Red Alligator was my first win in the Grand National, although bizarrely, I never backed Red Rum in any of his 3 wins. RIP Brian Story here .....> http://www.racingpost.com/news/hors...ged-69/2227468/#newsArchiveTabs=last7DaysNews
Great jockey and the best round Aintree. He could get a donkey to jump there. Despite all the noise being about Honey End in '67 I always felt Red Alligator should have won that year. Thankfully he won easily the next year. RIP
Red Alligator's 1968 Grand National win, filmed by Pathe. He's No. 22 and is in the what looks like mauve with green sleeves. He started at 100-7. At the Canal the first time around, he's in the last dozen or so. By the water jump he was about 16th on the outside. He continues to stay wide as he works his way into the race.
One of my many GN winners. So much easier in those days. I see The Fossa was leading for a long way. He was a grand old National horse if I remember correctly
I lived for the GN and backed Anglo (can't see why) to give me my first winner. Then when I saw Red Alligator was Anglo's half-bro I backed him in '67 and '68.
