This petition = sign if you agree with it.

Basically, the concept is those convicted of the riots in London should have benefits stopped if on them. Obviously, the issue with this is if it happened, there could be more crime as a result.

HOWEVER, in my eyes its better than doing nothing about the trouble. In England we have a very nambi pambi acceptance attitude of everything whilst quietly moaning to the hilt about it.

It needed 100,000 signitures to be discussed behind the scenes, however so far its reached 150,000 which should destroy the so called " freshold " amount, so should be discussed properly in the house of commons !

I hope to see many many more votes on this, I've so far emailed it to many friends.

I am absolutely disgusted by whats happened in our country and want justice done.

154,838 signatures so far, it's well past the amount required to force it to be discussed by the government.

They need more discipline at school, I'm not sure removing benefits will solve anything.

Perhaps turning benefits into a sort of rewards scheme for parents that have kids in school eg they have their benefits cut if kids skip school.

I have signed, I really felt sorry for the police during all of this as they couldn't do anything with force because our PC society would rather put a police officers on trial rather then thugs who go around with guns.

What a complete waste of time! <doh>

As if any of our "well respected" politicians will actually take any notice of what the decent law abiding majority of people want. Labour has bequeathed us an inheritance of feral offspring dependant on state hand outs and a culture of self obsessed entitlement. It will take more than a poxy petition to sort this little lot out.

Once you take away all the powers that authority has to control young people it is obvious that you will eventually arrive at a situation like this. I was brought up to respect my parents, teachers and police officers and most importantly have respect for myself! Over the last 30 years this liberal-left consensus has eroded all the recognised powers of authority. We now have a generation that knows their rights but has no regard at all for their responsibilities to society. It will take more than a poxy debate in Parliament to solve these problems. I grew up on the Whitton estate in the early 70s and it was as rough as hell but people didn't riot because of poverty!

The PC, namby-pamby ultra-tolerance of deadbeatery, dumbing down and excuse-making for underachievement and criminality is mainly traceable to postmodernism, Warky. This is the twaddle that’s blighted academia since the 60s. Bollocks put forward by typically pretentious French intellectuals which was embraced by liberal pseuds the world over and particularly beloved by Marxists.

This is the world-view that notions of objective truth are at best problematic and at worst flat-out wrong. It leads to cultural relativism where there is no standard, nothing is better, everything is just different. With most people being Sheep, including 99% of people passing through University, these ideas have been brainwashed into a generation of gimboids that are not merely now our leaders, but who decide educational policy, content, school discipline (or lack of it – after all, there is no BAD behaviour, just DIFFERENT behaviour due to the environment of the blameless “different” individual) and decide policy and prevailing attitudes in every other walk of life.

These attitudes dominate the whole welfare state. Before, welfare might have bred its deadbeats, but the “I’m entitled” slack-jawed morons who litter our streets have in more recent “enlightened” times had armies of “respectable” apologists to make any excuse imaginable.

We already have the handwringers out in force wailing about the terrible sentences given to the poor ickle misunderstood, let-down-by-society looters.

    We are doomed.

At least there seems to be a major swing in the general mood, a woman in a council house in London has been served with an eviction order today, due to her son getting nicked for looting. I think the suspension of benefit payments to rioters who are convicted is very much on the cards.

I’d like to see it Lambrettaman, but I fear that the eviction orders given to the rioter families won’t even stand, never mind the petition going to the MPs. I can’t see that withdrawing the entire benefits package to rioters will be seriously contemplated; it probably isn’t even technically legal.

The committee of MPs that will now have to sit on the petition will drink some coffee, chortle a bit about the ignorant Daily Mail reading peasantry that demanded such a reactionary thing and come out onto the steps and pay some lip service to the waiting press about “consequences of actions” but “unfortunately government responsibility to the disadvantaged” blah blah.

    Nothing will come of this.

Meanwhile, despite the initial rage against these morons, the rest of us (me excluded) will kowtow to the diktats of the PC elite (the most ignorant of all) who will decree the “underclass” merely need more taxpayer’s money throwing at them through various schemes, initiatives and programmes in order to “heal our unfair society”, the rioters being the blameless victims and all that guff.

Jonah you talk a great deal of sense. How about you stand as MP for Cambridge next time around you would definately get my vote. The problem is that we have so many left wing proles at the university voting lib dem and labour! It comes to something when you vote for a blue and get a yellow! <yikes>

Those on welfare should be drug tested and be clean before receiving anything too. I think this is already law in some US states. Theres plenty of occupations in which you have to be clean in order to earn the money to pay the tax to support these vermin, it just doesn't seem logical.

I agree I know what politicians are like and I wouldn't be at all surprised if this petition achieves ZERO

However, I am of the " lets try and do something " camp as opposed to the " lets give up all hope "
