Apparently the vans ARE lined up, but there's not even a hint of bother, i guess it makes sense to be ready.

As a region we're better than that, i have faith in our people, i just hope i'm not proved wrong.

My mate's just suggested they are getting ready for the derby, haha.

I don't know if this is just bias to my city/region but I genuinely can't see anything kicking off up here. Generally a working class region but nowhere near as rough as some of these areas in London.

This is a direct quote from Northumbria Police twitter account from 2 hours ago.
"All calm and very quiet in Newcastle, Sunderland and across the Northumbria Police force area"

    Pray it stays that way...

In my opinion it is nothing to do with how rough the area is: I would go as far as saying that our deprived areas and levels of unemployment are as bad as anything in the areas where there are riots. I firmly believe that it is cultural and identity problems that lie at the heart of these riots, with anarchists at the ready to fuel the flames. God knows what the long-term solutions are, but I would hazzard a guess that the Tory policies of shutting down social services etc hasn't helped the situation.
In the short term it has got to be local communities that stand up and be counted and stop these thugs ruining peoples lives, jobs and businesses, Because the police alone will not be able to stop this..

Well in Scotland they're too pissed & stoned to be arsed about it.

The Welsh are too busy with their sheep. (?)

And in Northern Ireland that sort of behaviour is met with harsh force.
