Won the award for best single documentary; about his and his three kids dealing with the loss of his wife /their Mum.
Gave probably the most coherent and eloquent 'acceptance' speech of the evening.
To me he often came across as a bit of a knob when still playing, but it appears that since retiring, plus the tragic loss of his wife, he's rounded out into very much a mature sensible well spoken person. Good for him.
There was a documentary on where Rio turned up at a local widow/widowers meeting - completely unannounced. I like him - he comes across as a very genuine and sincere bloke.
The guy has clearly learned some lessons about life the hard way. Great player too.
This, all ways up. I’m too young for the WC winning generation so Ferdinand is definitely amongst the best central defenders I can remember playing for England - far better on the ball than the various Arsenal players who preceded him for most of my England memories.
But always tempered by the widespread understanding that the guy was meant to be a monumental cock. Whether he was and after a terrible few years now isn’t, or if he never was, the documentary itself was pretty humbling and last night he carried it on. Best moment of the night.

I think he still attends those widowers meetings. I thought he was a flash Harry type. The documentary painted him in a very different light. I don't think you can 'act' that way, certainly whenever I have seen him post football he's the sort of person you'd happily have a pint with (or in DBTs case) several 
We've seen some people in a new light with their TV preferences after this weekend!

That is very specifically true as you well know.
I can’t understand anyone that can have one pint with someone...pints are bought in rounds...rounds must be bought back...therefore you can only drink in even numbers

(Even if rich boy Rio buys first, you’d still have to buy him one back...very good documentary by the way...really sad loss for him and his kids)
Very tragic story regarding his wifes illness and subsequent death but I just don't like the bloke.
