He may well have had a poor season with you lot, and he's not alone in that, but that is a frankly ludicrous comment.
Poor doesn't come close to covering it. I don't expect many United fans to agree. I just never thought he was worthy of true world-class status.
Described as the finest ball playing centre back to have pulled on the England shirt since Bobby Moore. Here's a very good article that describes his technical game very well. http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/rio-ferdinand-tactical-analysis-how-2141309
Best centre half the PL has seen. A majestic, ball playing defender who was never going to be fully appreciated by English football fans who prefer "blockers". In my experience he's also a really nice guy. Astute businessman too, not that it's relevant to his playing career, but he will go on to do well outside of football.
He might have had other things on his mind this season. I'd bet that he didn't take a penny from your club after he told them he wasn't in a position to focus on football. Blueman is your friend though!
Rio was world-class, at his peak, he was great, he formed that great defensive partnership with Vidic from 2007-2009, and kept things very tight, even while United were playing very attacking free flowing football.
I wouldn't mind taking that bet. Just wish he'd admitted he wasn't in a position to play football a year ago.
Decent player at his peak, though overrated, plus biggest bell end ever to have pulled on a football shirt. Good luck to him though, he made a good career for himself.
You've posted that on here by mistake. You'll find the Lampard thread somewhere on a Chelsea board. (Think lampard being a bell end is being a bit harsh though)
Best defender the league has ever seen. At his peak he had no peers. None at all. Part of the Maldini school of defending. If you have to make a tackle, you've already made a mistake.
The bitterness in here Vastly superior to any defender at any other English club. The definition of world class and as important to out 07-09 sides as Ronaldo. Overrated no words.
Really? I mean I think Terry is a knob but I think it's a bit of football snobbery to say Ferdinand was better because he had a more continental style. Maybe at a push the best in the league at some point but to say no one came close is way off. All opinions I guess
Those who can see past the outdated English bulldog style of defending which is a panicked, uncontrolled style cant appreciate the quality of players like Rio. Players who make the likes of Terry look good because they clean up theit numerous mistakes and lack of tactical awareness. Terry had Carvalho making him look better than he was and Rio made vidic look incredible.
Well he plays next to Cahill now at 35 or whatever he is and rarely seems to get done for pace and reads the game as well as Rio ever did. I think it's lazy to label Terry as tactically unaware just because he'll put his head in where Rio wouldn't put his boot.
