He was a great player for us but don't think he's good enough anymore. Will always remember the screamer against Man Utd though.

A bit too old and not as good as he once was to be considered. I'd rather have Insua back for the future.

I agree, although he's a better alternative than Aurelio who spents 3/4 of the season on the injury table I think we are more likely to be looking at young undeniable talent.

Why, to wash Kennys car daily, not to play surely? I like JAR but he was gettin crusty as he left and I doubt he has gotten better. To take a player of that age to efit to the team and to again get with the pace of the prem, no thx in some other capacity maybe

Will be 31 in September. To be fair to the guy he's a regular for Roma, who finished 2nd last year although they're 6th this year.

I would honestly agree with you if he was 27yo max, but that is a step backwards, we want ot be looking for someone to fill the position for the next 4 5 years not the next 12 months so it is better to start off right instead of making the same mistakes in looking for instant fixes that may be influenced by a little nostalgia maybe:).

As happy as I was to see Fowler in a Liverpoool shirt again, realy those games should have gone to one of the kids for experience, that would be the more useful thing to do. Get young players in and not bring old players back

He's had his time with us. We should look for someone a lot younger who can fill the position for a good few years. No good chopping and changing year after year, we need some consistency.

Coentrão for me! Enrique isn't good enough in my opinion, rather overhyped.

Riise is probably too old now. Like everybody else has said, I think Kenny and the club would be looking a younger alternative who will make the left-back slot his for the years to come. :emoticon-0100-smile

Man I love that bloke! He scored some excellent goals over the years, and left maybe a year too early. I think he was scapegoated after he scored that own goal. Despite this, we need to look forward. Maybe a coach in the future.

I'm not convinced with either to be honest. Coentrao had a good world cup but not that impressed with him for benfica. In saying that, they're both better options than what we have!

He was rather poor for a good two years before leaving. Glad we got rid, it's inexcusable that we didn't get an equal or better replacement for him in the 2 years he was at the club. I would suggest that had we signed a decent left back in the summer of 2008 instead of that clown Dossena we would be in the champions league spots right now.

I would actually have preferred if we gave Arbeloa the contract he wanted in 2009 and used him as a left back instead of using Aurelio (Who was always injured) and Insua who just wasn't good enough to start for us twice a week.

Insua was thrown in at the deep end too soon.He was like a frightened rabbit stuck in head-lights.It was hard for him as a young lad,but you could see fear in some of the older players in Rafa's last season. They were afraid to make mistakes. When you are afraid to make mistakes you will.Have you noticed how well the two young boys have settled. They play without fear,no nervousness.Theres no pressure put on them by Kenny.Even when Flanno clattered into Carra,Kenny called him over and said.''You're doing great''.He was made feel at ease.I still think during Rafa's reign we needed a better option than Dossena as Aurelio when fit was great, but when not fit was as much use as chocolate tea-pot.I agree about Arbeloa. But he wanted to test himself at Real Madrid, his first club and actually made his intention known that he wanted to go in 2008.

I sort of agree about Riise. He wasn't great in his last season, but I still think he had something to offer. As you said Dossena was pants - although he does well elsewhere.

I think Insua is worth another go. He wasnt crap, just not brilliant- but he was young.

Dossena will be remembered for something though...His magic trick. He managed to make 73,000 gloryhunting prawn munchers disappear in 30 seconds.
Imagine scoring against Real Madrid and their feeder club in the same week. Its priceless.
