Dropped Manquillo's Contract Details Javier Manquillo, on loan at Sunderland, received a boost last week with his inclusion in the Spanish Under-21 side. The right-back was called up to replace Arsenal's Hector Bellerin who withdrew through injury. As it panned out, Manquillo got no minutes under his belt as an unused substitute against Austria, but the nod will have given the Spaniard a boost having been dropped by David Moyes for Sunderland's last two games. Meanwhile, Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo, clearly oblivious to the struggles that the 22-year old has endured since his summer arrival, have reported on the "favourable experience" that Manquillo is enjoying in the Premier League. In an article entitled "Manquillo's Good Season", the Barcelona-based daily sports newspaper reveals that should the player, who can play at either left or right back, make 25 appearances this season, then Sunderland are obliged to purchase him for 11 million euros. So far, Manquillo has made seven full appearances under David Moyes and in truth has yet to make an impact.
we will only use him if there are injuries hes not that hot deffo not as good as some of the past loans
We are a poor team tho. If we can get a settled team I believe either Jones or Manny will do a job there. Nothing outstanding but squad players. Bardo was better than both. I assume he was let go because of his wages.
He's struggling to adapt, can't see him making those appearances, especially with a clause like that in place. Unreasonable to put a pressure clause like that in a youngsters loan contract imo. So often overseas players come good with time and games. He'll never get that chance with clauses like this. Don't like us doing business this way.
Could be - but Jones has actually played well recently IMO. Been better than Van Aanholt who has had hardly any criticism
I said at the time we should've tried to keep Bardsley but got shot down by a number of people saying "next level" etc. - guessing hindsight has now caught up with them!! (I suppose we all wanted to move onwards and upwards but we've been treading water now and he, at the time, was next level to what we have recently been used to!) Still think Jones has been OK recently - played much better than last season when he simply looked awful.
For what its worth I thought Jones looked decent as a left back when he played there last season, Lars could cover right back for now, if needed, he plays this position for Sweden and looks comfortable there to me. This would free PVA for an attacking role where many including me would like to see him play. Although these sive suggestions are not ideal, they are an alternative worth considering, paying the fee suggested for Manny is just not on, no way should he be bought under these terms, who was in charge of this negotiation, another shambles.
What makes me laugh about this is that we could have had Yedlin for about £5m. Not a worldbeater but, at the moment, a lot better than what we've got. Looks like another Alvarez type situation. Typical Sunderland
Sunderland do have an option to buy loanee Javier Manquillo but there is no clause triggering payment after a certain amount of games. The 22-year-old is on a season-long loan from Spanish side Atletico Madrid and has made seven appearances for Sunderland so far this campaign. The Echo understands Sunderland do have an option to make Manquillo's loan deal permanent but there is nothing in the arrangement saying the Black Cats have to sign him after a certain amount of appearances. Reports surfaced overnight that Sunderland would be facing a bill of £9.5m if the Spaniard makes 25 appearances for the club this season. That is not the case but the season-long loan does include an option for Sunderland to make the move a permanent four-year deal after the completion of the loan. Manquillo has recently lose his place in the Sunderland side to Billy Jones, who has impressed in the games against Southampton, Arsenal and in the club's maiden Premier League win of the season, away at Bournemouth. Manquillo spent the 2014-15 season on loan at Liverpool but failed to establish himself as a first-team regular at Anfield under then-manager Brendan Rodgers. Manquillo – a former target of Juventus – enjoyed a productive spell last season on loan at Ligue 1 side Marseille but was surplus to requirements at Atletico this season and joined Sunderland in the summer. The right-footed player has represented his country at youth level up to under-21 and has both UEFA Champions League and Europa League experience with Atletico.
FWIW I think Manquillo is as good as yedlin - probably better all around but certainly no worse (and only 22) - Yedlin is an average right back. Luckily - as per @Teessidemakem post above, there's no Alvarez situation
