I think its fairly obvious to most of us here that we need to look at signing another right back. Rangel is a good player but age is catching up with him as we saw last season, and though friendlies mean f all we saw how slow he was for the goal in that friendly. But who do we have as backup? Jazz? Jazz has played okay when he has come in occasionally but he is not really a Prem level player.

So, do you think we need a new right back? Who should we possibly look at?

This is my number one concern . Defence this season will be very busy and right back , defensively, is our weak link and must be addressed .

Yes.

Yedlin for the US looked good in the World Cup. Had electric pace and only 21.

I'm very concerned about RFB.

We have no cover for Rangel who struggled last year after an injury which also seemed to stifle his usual endeavour.

Jazz can't be considered true cover for Rangel as surely he'd have started a few more games than he has. I still think he's a defensive midfielder and the persisted moulding him into a full back can't be working.

Time to start him or let him go and buy in ready made cover, competition, for Rangel.

Jazz isnt good enough for the Pl at any position. But I like you are worried about the RB, but also LB. Rangel wont last the season he showed that last year and our alternative is Tiendalli, who i would consider to be no more than an average Championship fullback. We do need to look for cover and somone who will push Rangel not just be there in case of injury. I also think there is not the best cover at LB, I am still not convinced about Taylor, but he has the shirt, but with any injury to him there is little cover behind him. Believe we need to sign somone to be pushing him as well.

Looks like we are persevering with Tiendalli at the minute, not sure what's happening with Jazz, but maybe he needs some experience in the Championship on loan, I like Jazz but he seems to be a forgotten player at the minute, surely we should be bringing him on like we did Ben Davies?

Yedlin looked a good signing for us, young, showed great ability for his age against powerful opposition and very marketable to the US (a black American in the Premier League? Gold dust!)

A bit late for that jazz is 4 years older than him. If he was good enough would have matured in to the squad by now. I dont think it helps when he is up play football on a midweek playing 5 a side with his mates. We have tried the loan thing and he is no better off. I understand that we all want him to succeed because he is a local boy, but sometimes you have to say enough is enough.

Jazz is 2 years older, but I fully agree that he should have been really knocking on the door by now. How long is too long? I'd say 23 is about the right age to decide a players future at a club. For Jazz that time is now.

Interesting! Then clearly he needs to go out on loan in the championship to a good club like Brighton!................<ok>

I have to agree with Trunds, Phil. It might be time to cut him loose and getting him a championship club to stay permanent would be the best thing for both parties, I really wanted him to succeed but both us and him will be held back a bit if we loan him when he is 24 under the guise of development. He is a man now by any standard and needs a good career, I think he will only get that by being on the payroll of a club he plays for :(

Jazz played well a few seasons ago when we had trouble on the left and right of defense due to injury. Then he never got a sniff since , I think Jazz is a much better player than he gets credit for .

Jazz is not and never was a full back, he filled in when called and did a decent job.
I'd like to see him alongside leon which would be closer to his chosen position.
I see him on par with Amat.

Some young talented right-backs;

Danny Da Costa (Bayer Leverkusen) - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Danny_da_Costa
Silvan Widmer (Udinese) - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silvan_Widmer
Stefano Sabelli (Bari) - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stefano_Sabelli
Dimitri Foulquier (Rennes) - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dimitri_Foulquier
Adam Henley (Blackburn) - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adam_Henley

Henley can play left-back also and has represented Wales at youth level

We could loan Kenneth Omeruro or Andre Wisdom?

We better do something or We are going to leak goals on Rangels side . Hes still a great attacker and playmaker but he is the weakest link on the pitch , defensively . Frankly I think our defense is going to come under extreme pressure this season and I think I could run past Rangel , little on a pro .

Bob so you see Jazz as a centre half and playing along side Ash or Chico cause that is where Amat is playing.

Were we linked to a young foreign LB anyone heard anything on that.

Swansea join Liverpool in the race for Leeds United defender Sam Byram
By Sam Rourke ⋅ July 25, 2014 ⋅ Post a comment

"Swansea City have joined Liverpool in the race for Leeds United full-back Sam Byram, according to FLW sources.
Sam Byram is a target for Liverpool and now Swansea

Sam Byram is a target for Liverpool and now Swansea

The Welsh side are eager to add more defensive cover to their side before the start of the season, following the departure of Ben Davies to Tottenham.

Byram, 20, is thought to be high on Brendan Rodgers transfer wishlist as he prepares for the upcoming Premier League campaign, however Garry Monk is keeping tabs on the situation of the Thurrock born defender.

Byram has spent his whole career at the Elland Road outfit, accumulating 69 appearances for the club, also scoring three goals.

The young full-back has been the subject of interest from an array of clubs, with Southampton and West Bromwich Albion holding a firm interest last January."
