From Fulham Chronicle: "" QPR chief admits mistake over Barton signing By Paul WarburtonAug 24 2012 Add a commentRecommend inShare.0 Share on emailShare on print Joey Barton JOEY Barton would never have been allowed near QPR â had the current coaching set-up been in place prior to the banned midfielder signing exactly a year ago today. Rs technical director Mike Rigg admitted last night there might have been others in the current squad failing to match new âdue diligenceâ demands at a revamped regime. Barton will serve the second of a 12-match ban tomorrow (Saturday) at Norwich following his sending-off at Manchester City in the last game of last season. And the shocking scenes at the Etihad Stadium as Rangers fought for their Premier League lives was the straw that broke the tolerance in manager Mark Hughesâ back. Annoncevalg Barton has been stripped of the captaincy and denied a squad number while being told in no uncertain terms there is no Rangers future for him despite three years left on his contract. Twice convicted of assault while serving a prison sentence for one of them to go with three FA convictions for violent conduct, the 29-year-oldâs best bet was a loan deal, according to Hughes. But the problem would never have arisen had Rigg and co been at Loftus Road sooner. The man in charge of shaping a new Rangers youth programme that goes with research on new signings admitted fate had he and Hughes arriving a little too late. Rigg said: âWe would much have preferred to be here sooner, and there will be a lot more due diligence in the future when we will be more thorough over signings.â However, to make sure the top-to-bottom academy, sports science, coaching and scouting set-up at Rangers becomes state of the art, Rigg revealed that staffing the various strands has shot up from two full-timers to 20 in just the last month. Rangers intend to add another five more behind the scenes, and now have scouts in South America, Holland and France to leave no stone unturned in luring the best young players to west London. Shaun Hallett has been added to roster as Head of Academy and Football Operations, and will oversee the youngsters from age six upwards. He said: âWe need to make sure standards from the very youngest all the way to the first team are the same, and that there is a clear path to allow the best young players a chance at the highest level.â Read More http://www.fulhamchronicle.co.uk/london-qpr/2012/08/24/82029-31688764/#ixzz24SCoqjQz ""
Never mentions any quotes about Barton what so ever, only that moving forward there would be more due diligence...........another article twisting words to get on the back of Joey barton once again......its getting boring now.
It's this kind of talk that excites me just as much as any big name signing, and completely blows the myth that all we are doing is looking short term. And again they have put this statement out to perfectly coincide with all those crappy journo blogs we've had to put up with this week. We'll executed PR sri(or is it SIR) Tony Fernandez!!

What was the due dilligence done on Rob Green? Very thorough if the rumours are to be believed that Cesar is on his way to W12.
Not sure it's a positive thing admitting that there's others in the club that possibly shouldn't be there. This should be about future acquisistions and not about previous ones. Not greatly impressed (except with Grinning~Curs' quip).
I hate these "If I had been here, it wouldn't have happened" sort of pronouncements. You weren't, it did and it's old news. Why bring it up now. It's the sort of meaningless crap that politicians come out with. Incidentally. If I had been in charge of the country in 1939 we would not have been involved in WW2. Just thought that you should know that.
I agree with Eamon that's it's a pointless to spout off in hindsight - particularly when Barton is still with us. A loan abroad only defers the problem doesn't it? Unless he's sold to an overseas club, he'll come back to us next year with the 12 match ban still in place.
